Dance in the Graveyards (A Rose Tyler AU)

Bare feet flicker over the familiar grass and dust beneath her as fireflies swirl around her body, the sweet rush of her breath warm in her chest, and she begins to sing, quietly at first, but growing louder and louder until the rhythm of her steps is almost drowned out by her voice. She can feel the crowd around her grow, lonely spirit by desolate wanderer, their living counterparts ringing the graveyard, waiting for just a moment of being able to see, to touch, to be with them again. The air is getting thick, so damp and heavy in her throat, and her song soars in the midnight air, ringing in her ears and through the delta bays and bayous, until it feels as if the whole land is singing with her, to her, through her. Midnight rises, lightning creeping upwards through her bones, and crests, her song rising to a crescendo, the last moments for the spirits to finish their goodbyes to the living before silence blanketed the graveyard.
She turns to smile at her Doctor, casually leaning against a gravestone as he watches her contentedly, and lifts her hair to fan her neck as she makes her way over to him.
'I thought I might find you here, Doctor!'
He grins, sharp and white against the shadow that crosses over him before leaning forward and propping his head in his hand.
'It's that time of year again, my Rose. Surely you'll dance for me tonight?'
'Oh, I saved the last one for you, don't worry.'
His form flickers slightly as he stands, solidifying the closer he comes to her, his smile widening.
Then there is only the dark, and the fireflies, and the river...
