this little critter is a redear sunfish !
it was caught out of a reservoir (and returned) & kindly allowed us to use it to teach highschool students how to measure fish :)
Fish!
Some of them look a little weird, but it’s my second time painting with gouache. I’m definitely proud

The water is still a little chilly and the crappie haven’t moved shallow yet, but until they do these guys will keep me busy

Not really sure why the Redear are in the shallows already, but I’ll take what I can get!
The only Redear Sunfish to make an appearance today, the rest of the day was full of Crappie and Bluegill
Played around with the little fish while waiting for the Bowfin to bite
