We’re masochists...
I meant to say once I got back that Lesley and I probably should not have recited any nursery rhymes in the Sapphire And Steel panel at Redemption 19 - especailly after also doing talks about the links between railways and ghosts in former railway hotel. Was just asking for trouble of the "I should email this to the Fortean Times" type- like when I was going up to our room on the third floor of three floors, only went up two by mistake, saw I was at room 258 instead of 356, went up one more floor, saw I was still facing room 258 instead of 356, then went up another floor to find myself finally at room 356...
Then she had the experience of getting up in the night for the bathroom, asking if I was aleady in it, which I was (and replied so), turning round to see and touch me (my ankle, apparently, to check I was real) still in the bed, then making it to the bathroom door in time to bump into me coming out of the bathroom. The other me wasn't in the bed when I got there.
Then on the journey back up I was either microsleeping and dreaming I was still at some version of the convention - always a different scene or interaction - with a regular "one minute in the car, one minute in a version of the convention that was as real as the being in the car part" rinse and repeat, or tumbling through a host of alternate realities in search of the right one, Fuck that for a game of soldiers....
Yes, back from Redemption 19. Was good - I had been worried that with fewer people because of the dates, it was going to die on its feet, but actually it was rather better than Red 17.
Highlights included Man Of Iron, of course, and various panels- though I suspect that holding both railway ghost and Sapphire And Steel panels in a former railway hotel may have been tempting fate as some of us had some spooky experiences thereafter. (seriously, that hotel has three floors, and yesterday morning went up four of them). Though, apart from moment, it may have had something to do with mixing cassis with rye bourbon.
I think at some point when introducing ourselves in an LGBT panel I did say “I’m Dave and I’m bisexual” which didn’t bother me at that moment cos I’ve been open about it for five or six years and so everybody knows that anyway, but later it felt weird to think about having said that in front of a group of people, like it was some sort of Bisexuals Anonymous group. And feeling weird about it was weird too...
Sue Griffiths, Tlanti, did us a lovely dialed-back programme, Fiona Moore was a great guest, Sarah Brider ran Ops smoothly, and so on - and it was wonderful get to ctach up with Tyrone and so many others. We didn't do any SCA stuff this year - been there done that previously, but Yannick from that circle did a sterling job on Tech too.
I probably could and definitely should mention lotsof other people, but it was very busy, plenty of late nights, so I'm very soon to going to crash and crash hard...
I'm looking for stuff to bring and/or wear before leaving for Redemption today - doubt there'll be any cosplay from me since everythign has been hidden by Lesley for the past month while we had visitors throughout Xmas and New Year...
Ah, I shall be playing Gabor in Man Of Iron this month.... Wonder if I'll do the same way as last time...
