so you’ve discussed bellamy and clarke’s journeys and where they are now (bellamy has reached his arc, clarke is still completing hers) but where do you think octavia is? does she have a hero story still or is it a villain’s story now? i would say those three are the focal points of the show so i’m curious how you think octavia’s arc will continue/end (sorry if you’ve already answered this or something similar)
No. She’s being redeemed. They’re doing a real redemption not just a last minute dead martyr thing PRETENDING that they actually earned their redemption. *ahem.*
They actually teased the fake redemption in season 5 and then yoinked the easy way out away from her which I thought was a great twist, raising expectations for a trite story and replacing it with something much harder and more worthwhile. It made me think they were better writers than I thought they were.
So, she’s going back to my original thought, before she turned evil and we flirted with the Anakin path to the dark side, that Octavia represents humanity itself.
So like, if Clark and Bellamy are the mother and father, or even the father and the holy spirit, then that makes Octavia the son or the child. If Clarke and Bellamy are the head and the heart, then Octavia is *the soul.* So the child/son of the mother/father father/holyspirit, is humanity. SO her being the soul also fits, because what happened in the apocalypse is that humanity is not just the VICTIM of the apocalypse, but also the perpetrator of it, and the things they’ve had to do to survive have stained them permanently.
Octavia is the darkened, soiled soul.
In order to bring about a REDEMPTION of humanity on this show, we’re going to need to see Octavia redeemed.
So I think we’ll see a redemption quest for Octavia. It’s already started. I’d have to do some closer research and go over her narrative since getting out of the bunker. But allowing herself to be taken back to whoever told Hope to bring her was a kind of surrender of a sort Octavia hasn’t done since Lincoln was alive. It was done in love. And I suspect that going into the anomaly is her own sort of other side hero’s journey.
However, I think I’ve decided Clarke is doing a HEROINE’S journey, which I was not as familiar with, similar to a hero’s journey, but not ending there, rather continuing on to make peace with the masculine side and find new ways of doing things. And while I think Bellamy has done his hero’s journey, I think he might be heading onto a ROMANTIC quest now. Now his goal is to be united with his love, who is Clarke. His goals seemed to have changed since he achieved his balance and confidence as a leader.
