Tondo, Manila, is steeped with history. Back then, it was this beacon of hope, a place where significant people lived and big things happened, that defined Manila and the entire Philippines. Above all, Tondo began as a fishing village. Tondo has been viewed in the same light by contemporary artists over the years. Ed Arcilla has made a series of paintings on "Tondominyums" on canvas using mixed media. The buildings are highlighted not just by the artist's use of vivid colors, but also by the empty space surrounding them. The open space in his artwork makes it easier for the observer to imagine the level of congestion existing. If you would like to see his work, visit the exhibit, “Redefining Spaces Through Art”. The exhibition runs through September 8 at 2A Lee Gardens, Lee Street, Wack-Wack, Mandaluyong City.
