DiNardo Supports Migliore
To The Editor:
After living in Saugus for 50 years, I have watched how our community rises and falls under different administrations. I am supporting Jen Migliore for state representative of the 9th Essex District because she understands the importance of staying on top of this issue.
Since 1949 the representative seat for the Ninth Essex District for the majority of Saugus was held by four people. The late Representative Belden Bly was in office from 1949 until 1981. After Rep Belden was Representative Stephen Angelo from 1981 to 2001. Next was Representative Mark Falzone from 2001 until 2010. Currently we have Representative Donald Wong who has been in office since 2010.
Prior to 2001 the Ninth Essex District was comprised of Saugus entirely; precincts one through ten. That all changed in 2001, precinct three and precinct ten were added to the 16th Suffolk District which is mostly made up of Revere.
Redistricting was done once again in 2011 but not much changed. Every ten years the districts are re- assigned based on population. The next cycle is coming up in 2020. According to the town clerk, the state powers that be are already starting to re-draw lines.
Prior to 2001 Wakefield had their own state rep and now four of their precincts have been gerrymandered into ours. It’s important that people in our communities understand that the new lines for each district will be under heavy influence of the majority party; the Democrats, on Beacon hill. This is an important issue to myself and many others in Saugus.
Keeping Saugus intact is an issue that Jen Migliore understands.
