The Red Room || Damian Wayne x Red Room Reader part 1.
Your arrival in Gotham was nothing short a disaster.
Fought like your life depended on it. Because it did.
Your life depended on how well you could fight.
The mission you were on went sideways. You knew this was your last chance to escape because they wouldn't let you out again till you gradudated.
The 'family' you had been placed with had been undercover.
When your 'father' got close enough to what he needed.
You were there. You were always there when it mattered.
The machine malfunctioned.
You caused the malfunction and your 'mother' attacked you for it. To prevent you from causing more harm.
You weren't trained too well, but well enough.
You defended for as long as you could.
You were dragged back. Broken again.
Then it was the week before your graduation.
You knew this was your last chance. Your true last chance.
You turned 18 this morning.
You fought your way out of the facility.
3 other red room graduates came through with you. Fell through the portal.
When you sat up they were also sitting up.
You jumped to your feet upon the roof top.
Your black suit sticking to you well.
You ran as fast as you could, but you weren't fast enough.
One of the girls hot on your tail.
You turned back countering before her fist even moved.
The glint of a camera below you.
The other two girls caught up to you and you fought hard.
You fought like you'd never go back home. Because you wouldn't. They'd kill you before that happens.
So you did what you had to.
Snapping one of the girls necks.
The next charging you in combination with the other.
You moved between them both.
The dagger that slid into the earth by your head scared you half to death when it slid across your temple.
You grabbed the dagger sticking it into her leg.
As she fell you threw it into the eye of the girl who was reacting to what she saw.
She went down and you kipped up.
You swung your leg under the third girls, and she fell to the ground with a sickening crack.
Then you did what you had to.
By the time you finished you realized you were nowhere near where you came from.
You were careful none the less moving their bodies.
You buried them carefully in a wooded area near by.
It was no fairy forest, but a cold one.
Snow adorned the earth, the red blood trail leading to you.
So you did what you could, kicked up the snow.
By the time you were done you turned back to the city you were in.
You needed to find out where you were.
As you walked you saw a newspaper drift by and acted quickly to grab it.
Only for it to be snatched up by a man in... a colorful suit with an R logo?
He was quick with his words.
So thats where you were? The middle east?
The words on the paper were in English though.
"Did my mother send you?"
You looked back at him and raised your eyebrow, "She did not."
He seemed caught off guard by that response.
"You are an assassin, no?"
You sighed, "Unfortunately. However I quit. Recently."
"The fight with those girls?"
You narrowed your eyes, he was watching.
"Yes. That was my goodbye party."
He nods slow. "You do not fight like someone from the league."
You shrug, "I'm from no league. I was a soon to be graduate of the Black Widow program."
He stares quietly, then his a crackle of a com radiates from his ear.
He responds in English though.
As he turns back to you you cut him off, "Where am I?"
He squints at you like you're an idiot.
Gotham city? Where the hell is that.
"Does it have another name?" you ask, back to English.
He shakes his head, "Not that I am familiar with."
He raises an eyebrow, "The United States."
That at least narrows the location some.
The red room probably doesn't know where you're at so you should have a little bit of time. Though they have agents placed all over the world. So who's to say how long.
You looked down at your outfit. It wasn't the most discrete.
You looked up at him, "I need clothes. I need to disappear. Will you help me."
He raises an eyebrow, "I might be able to. Why should I?"
You raise an eyebrow in return, "Because I can tell you how to spot another Black Widow and there likely will be one here soon in pursuit of me."
He stares at you quiet. "Very well. I will over you sanctuary in my residence."
You nod. This is more then you had hoped.
You turns his back to you and takes off down the street, scaling the building by it easily.
You chase him across the city till you end up at a mansion on the outskirts of the city.
Walking inside he calls for someone, "Pennyworth. I have a guest. Please provide them with a room. We shall be downstairs discussing."
You follow him through the house and down an elevator.
When you get into the... cave he turns to face you for a few seconds.
Another man turns to face you back then starts yelling.
"Robin what on earth are you thinking! Who on earth did you bring. Batman is going to kill you."
He scoffs and rolls his eyes.
He walks past the large computer to another room.
You follow him and it turns out to be a medical room.
He gestures to the chair and you sit down.
He returns with sutures and starts his stitch work by your temple.
He shakes away your hand, "You can, however you won't."
You run maps through your head. You weren't familiar with a place on the East of the United states called Gotham.
He's smooth with his words, "Why did you run away?"
You sit there, "My graduation would have been next week."
He pulls back finished, "Why run then?"
You look at him for a second, "I do not want to be a part of their program. Do you have a map. I'm not familiar with where Gotham is."
He looks at you quiet for a moment before leading you out of the medical room.
As you walk he steps in front of a table.
It lights up with holograms of landscape and he types in something.
You look at him, "This is New Jersey?"
He furrows his eyebrows, "New Jersey? I can't say i've heard this place be called that."
A cough startles both of us though.
"She isn't from here Damian."
He looks at the man in the large... Bat suit?
"That high energy reading was a portal. She and 3 other women came through it. It is similar enough to the one the flash produces when he time travels."
That's not what you wanted to hear.
At the same time though, that means your free.
They can't follow you here.
The corner of your lips twitch. You can't react though as much as you would like to double over in joy. You have to make sure they don't send you back.
"You can't send me back."
The man in the bat suit looks at you eyes narrowed, "Why not?"
"They'll kill me. Or worse... i'll have to graduate."
He stares at you quiet for a moment, "What do you mean graduate?"
You give him a look, "First you have to agree not to send me back."
Damian looks between the two of you, "We will not send you back-"
He glares, "Father. She can't go back. They'll kill her."
You nod, "He speaks the truth, they'll either kill me or staralize me and force me to go on missions as a Black Widow. I do not wish to continue being an assassin."
There's silence that surrounds you all.
He looks between you and Damian.
"I wish to see you spar with Damian."
Damian moves backwards slow, no weapons.
You follow him over to a mat.
He removes a katana from his side and a few daggers.
You follow suite with a few of your weapons.
Slow. Meticulous. Not all of them though. Just the obvious ones. Just in case.
Then the man in the Bat suit signals the start of the fight.
You break into a run. Better to end this quick.
You run at him and he slids his foot towards your legs.
You jump up reaching for his arm, swinging your legs around throwing one up to the side of his face bring your other along the other side of his head gripping his other arm you pull your weight down pushing his head down by the neck.
He lands on the ground the wind knocked out of him before he kips up.
As you stand he lunges, throwing his fist forward, you grip it as you dodge twisting it forward then backwards pushing it to extend then rotating in sending an elbow hard into his face. As he recovers you do a quick turn sending your foot flying to his face.
His arms incircle you and you grab and twist his fingers.
He releases with a cry and you run forward jumping your hips flying upward, hands landing on his knees to push you up to his head and then you pull down and push off of him at the same time doing a half areal off of him.
He rolls before standing though.
Quicker to his feet then last time.
You duck down throwing your leg high into his gut before crouching backwards.
He swings at your head, left then right.
You lunge the opposite way each time.
He sends his hands towards your neck and you block sending a knee to his groine.
He doesn't stumble like you're used to though an you act instead to throw a backhand against his face.
He stumbles for a second.
You throw a kick to his mid section, using the momentum to send your leg around and to his feet. Then you push off the ground sending your foot up and past his face.
You wrap your legs up around him, pulling your arm around his neck.
It doesn't work as well as the first time though and he sends his arm up to yours pulling you forward dropping forward.
You tumble rolling pushing back up with a deep breath.
You turn and he grabs you by the neck.
You throw a fist down into his elbow 3 times before you throw your hand into his neck.
Then you push forward and rotate pulling your leg up and kicking into his face.
As he lets go you swing back around and he drives a fist towards your head. You wait for his body to swing further before throwing a fist into his side.
Then you send a jab straight to his face, he grips you by the hair though and pulls down and then shoves you forward.
You tumble to the ground into a roll.
As he approaches you drive both feet up before using the momentum to stand.
Then you drive forward wrapping one of his arms over him and throwing him over your shoulder.
He's agile though and lands on his feet taking your momentum against you and throwing you forward.
As you roll forward into a standing position he throws a fist at you.
You take the opportunity to wrap a leg on it and twist away from his body.
He tries to raise his arm up and instead you throw your foot back into his face.
He stands quick running at you and your body moves on instinct alone throwing a kick into his face.
He stumbles back and you run at him, driving your knee into his front.
As you do you push your body sending both arms under and over his shoulder pulling up and twisting your leg over his front before driving your elbows, hand interlocked into the top of his head.
You hit 3 times before he drops to his knees and slams you down.
You fall back wind knocked out of you as his hand goes to your neck.
You pull your knee but his other arm goes to your legs.
So you do the only thing you can think of and thrust your hips quick, your legs lose before pulling them forward enough to lock your ankles in front of his neck.
You press hard and he lets go, grabbing instead at your thigh where he sends a powerful elbow into your thigh.
You retreat backwards and he grabs your arm this time when you swing and sends you over onto the ground.
You twist your arm getting his grip lose before a foot lands where your head just was.
Then he slams a fist towards you and you interlock your legs along his top.
One knee crossed over putting pressure against his neck as you rotate your body and he flies to the side.
You continue the momentum shifting into a croutch.
As he gets up you take a second to breathe.
Then he charges again, you dodge left then right then he sends a palm to your chest.
You take a deep breath fuck that hurt.
Then you grip his collar and twist up and over his head shoving him into the wall besides you when you got to do it again he kickes off and flips over you you flip around and he grips your jaw shoving you back into the wall your legs off the ground.
You kick at him a few times before lifting hard and kicking into his chest.
He stumbles back and you drop onto your ass gasping.
As he rushes at you again you wrap an arm around his neck before kicking off against the wall
Dropping backwards throwing him off of you twisting.
He charges you picking you up by the waist and driving you into the wall.
You cry out as you collide before driving your elbow down into his back repeatedly .
He lets go quick and drives a knee into your face.
You fly back your foot coming up and kicking up his chin.
As you slide back you sit there on the ground for a second before standing up.
You get up at the same time and you just stare at each other.
You clash forearms against each other this time and drive your fist towards him.
He takes the opportunity and swipes a foot from beneath you and you fall back. His arm follows you down.
You're quick to drive a fist against his wrist and he falls forward some you take the movement to push him to the side and as he tumbles you jump up.
You charge him this time sending yourself around him as you rotate you drop down sending a leg beneath him.
He crashes to the ground.
You both look at each other panting for a second before he kicks back up and pulls back.
Then he throws his hands at you again.
You counter fist after fist till he grips your arms and throws his forehead into yours, then he grabs the front of your suit and tosses you forward.
You rotate landing on you feet pulling backwards using the same trick against him except when you toss him to the ground you keep hold on his suit and drive your hand down into his neck.
"That's enough." rings out behind you.
You pull off and the man in front of you is breathing just as hard as you are.
You offer him a hand up and he takes it.
He looks you up and down for a second quiet, "Impressive. How's your thigh?"
You counter, "How's your back?"
He smirks, "I've had worse."
You nod in understanding, "As have I."
He gives you another look, "You fight like you have nothing left to lose, which is either stupid... or effective. I haven't decided which."
You smirk, "You fight well...enough."
His voice rings out again, "Name"
It's commanding, not requesting, "Y/n"
"Y/n." He repeats, then his voice shifts to curiosity, "Why run? Tell me the truth. If you lie to me I WILL find out. You will not like what happens when I do."
You smirk, "Whatever you say."
"You stink of fear and blood and death. You will wash. Then you will eat and answer fathers questions. Honestly." he adds again.
Then he eyes your temple again, "You should have been more careful. Not because of whatever oath you owe them but because I don't like having to fix things others break."
You roll your eyes, "I owe them no oath, they took me at birth I still don't know my mothers name." you trail off quiet.
He glances between you and Batman for a moment.
"Do not expect me to sob if you cry. Do not expect me to smile if you sleep. But don’t expect me to let them take you either. Not while I can stop them."
You raise an eyebrow, "You have my respect as well."
He squints, "Consider yourself provisionally useful. If you cause trouble, I will remove it. If you try to run again, I will restrain you, as painfully as necessary."
You smirk, "I have no reason to run, you're providing me food and sleep. That's all I want."
Batman steps closer, the cowl shadowing half his face. His voice is measured, demanding.
“Who trained you?”
You hesitate. Every instinct on edge as you look at him.
Damian catches it, the flicker in your eyes and takes a half step forward before you can speak.
Bruce glares at him silence. “I want to know who.”
You swallow. “Different handlers. Never the same one twice. I don't have names.”
Batmans eyes narrow. “Then who oversaw the facility?”
You flinch the name is still a bruise in your mind — but before you can form the word, Damian moves again.
“Does it matter?” he asks, voice low but with command beneath. “They’re not here. She is. You said yourself the portal readings match the Flash’s. There’s no guarantee that even the same world exists where she came from.”
Bruce’s gaze sharpens. “You’re assuming.”
“I’m deducing,” Damian snaps. “And I’m telling you she’s not lying.”
He squints at you both, "You've known her for less then an hour."
"I've seen others in her shoes. I know the look of someone running for their life."
A distance settles between the two. One you can see was there before you arrived.
Batman sighs though, "Fine. She stays for now."
You release a breath you didn't know you held. The world feeling lighter.
Damian exhales like he’d been holding his breath the entire time. “She’ll need training, if she’s to blend in. And an identity.”
Batman raises an eyebrow. “Already planning her integration?”
Damian’s jaw tightens. “Already planning not to bury another runaway, Father.”
Batman nods once, curtly. “Fine. You take responsibility for her. Make sure she understands the rules.”
“I will,” Damian answers, firm.
Then his emerald eyes look back at yours.
“Come,” he says quietly, gesturing toward the elevator. “You should eat before you fall over.”
You blink. “You’re… not going to lecture me?”
He glances over his shoulder. “Oh, I will. But not while you’re shaking.”
You look down at your hands and realize he's right.
---------------------------------------------------------
You sit on the edge of his bed, now bandaged and exhausted. Damian perches on the arm of a chair nearby, arms folded, eyes sharp, but the tension around him is quieter now.
“You’re lucky,” he says abruptly, voice clipped. “Most would be dead before I even got to them.”
You blink at him. “Lucky? You mean… you saved me?”
He shrugs, pretending it’s casual, but the slight flush in his cheeks betrays him. “I don’t… I didn’t expect you to be that reckless.”
“Reckless?” you echo. “I was trying to survive.”
There’s a pause, and then he leans forward slightly, softer now. “You’ll need to learn to blend in here… this is Gotham. Not your world. You can’t just fight everyone who looks at you funny.”
You give a small, tired smile. “And what if I get into trouble?”
Damian’s eyes darken, protective and sharp. “Then I deal with it. Understand? No one will hurt you while I’m around.”
You nod, your voice gets softer "I know not to fight others, I was trained for cover assignments."
