Well.
That's the end of a year of my life, and in another sense two and a half years of it, and eleven years of some other people's lives...
Tonight was the last Cambridge University Treasure Trap interactive, ending my year as a ref, my two and a half years as someone involved with the game, and the eleven years of the game itself (bar the 3ygb in a month or so). It's been a big chunk of my life.
Reffing's been a lot of fun, and some stress, but plenty of fun. I feel I've been a bit lax on some of the writing side of it - not many interactive encounters or Gossip articles out of me - but I hope I've pulled my weight overall by working hard on my specialities of Numbers, Metaphysics, and Plot Ideas (Probably Involving Slavery or Undead). The Pie Plot and the Barrows linear are probably my two highlights of Shit That Came Out Of My Head, the latter being notable for being a carefully thought-out linear designed to give a sense of depth to the setting by implying a long history, written by a ref who considers comedy encounters to be somebody else's problem, and introduced to the PCs by the simple means of me staggering into the bar in peasant kit shouting "There are SKELETONS in our PRIVY!"
Oodles of thanks to my fellow refs for the year - I definitely think the refteam was greater than the sum of the refs. I'm godawful at organising myself, and of course there's a load of stuff (including, I will freely admit, the lighter-hearted end of TT, which I'm basically terrible at writing...) I could never have come up with. We did a thing and players had fun!
Of course, prior to that I was a player...
So here's to Sir Anthony, Knight of the King and of Humact, slayer of undead and now questionably-undead guardian projection of a weapon of mass destruction. Here's to Bartimaeus, Sordanite paladin and general troll. Here's to Justin du Mesne - necromancer, high priest, lich, unutterable dickbag, and holder of the Wessex Arms Number Of Dead Mortals In Your Rec Spirit Response Record for 2013.
And here's to John Forrester (24), my first LARP character - a simple chap who wanted the best for everyone, and achieved this by hitting Bad People who were a danger to everyone else with big piles of dark magic.
This isn't really an ending, though. CUTT is over, but the society continues with No Flag, No Country next year. I've already worked out one of the things I'm playing, and I'm rather looking forward to it...
So. I wish TT farewell, with one last thing to say -
Don't fall down a flight of knives.
In human speech - I ran my first CUTT interactive tonight! Think it went well; fun appeared to be created by the players, and the efforts to change the IC money from "potion and scroll tokens" to "money" by selling pies IC worked pretty nicely, apart from the slight change-finding issue. I should work something out for whoever's doing that next week...
After all the prep work and so on, tonight's my first time being a ref in the same place as the players... Should be good, and I'll be interested to see what newbies we've picked up - and how everyone reacts to our shiny new plots, of course.
Everything else I want to say has been redacted because some of the players might be reading this. :-D
I have reached the point where I'm getting some significant creative refwork done and typed up and starting to turn it into Actual Plots As They Will Appear In Play, as opposed to "an idea that I intend to run". This is a welcome change from the necessary task of copying a big pile of characters onto the refwiki (though "an idea that I intend to run" can get fairly extensive, it just doesn't look like I've done as much).
Activity: plotting; mood; malevolent glee.
For reasons of Optimal Fun, I'm not telling you guys what I'm plotting. :-P
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
type type type email email IRC copy and paste reformat type type wait shit better add some categories so we can find all this stuff later
