If it's on AO3, I suggest putting the fic in using Rich Text, because that does the html formatting for you automatically, then doing anything that requires specific HTML that Rich Text doesn't do (e.g. blockquote or workskins)
I particularly suggest that because I've seen lots of people have spaces between italicized text and punctuation
And if you're worried abt your formatting being lost with going from Rich Text to HTML, you don't need to. It converts it automatically
Generally formatting advice
If you can, or want to, you can have indents at the start of every paragraph (except the first one in each section)
Make a new paragraph for each new character's dialogue and/or action, but keep the same paragraph for the same character's dialogue and actions (i.e. if the focus is moving to a different character, move to a different paragraph)
