→ my version of helena is based off of two particular comic runs ( huntrcss: year one & batmcn/huntrcss: cry for blood ) → there are still a handful of divergences from these two runs, as I began writing her a little over a year ago in a discord group rp that required characters to have divergences due to some timey wimey shenanigans, but she is still heavily based on the two comic runs above as well as influenced by other details I have picked from various other runs throughout the 30+ years of helena’s comic existence. → that being said, dc has been all over the board with her character. I am choosing one version, my divergent amalgamation, and for the most part sticking with that as best as I can. this is not to say i’m not open to aus, because I can assure you that i absolutely am! → she is not in any way associated with the dceu or arrowverse depictions of hel. if that’s what you’re looking for here, i am very sorry! i hope you’ll still stay! i hope we can write together!
ALSO CAN I SAY THAT I LOVE THE DETAIL OF MEDIA AND TECHNICAL BOY LOOKING “PLASTIC” IN THEIR SKIN VS MR WORLD, WHO IS NOT ACTUALLY A NEW GOD AND HAS PORES AND IMPERFECTIONS?
it’s just... REALLY important to note that the actual two new gods look like plastic. their skin looks too perfect to be skin. they’re airbrushed as fuck and meanwhile, local trickster god below has wrinkles, has pores, has flaws in their skin that make for a rather jarring contrast. AGAIN ITS JUST THE LITTLE THINGS BUT I LOVE THAT WORLD ISNT AIRBRUSHED BC MR WORLD IS NOT A NEW GOD.
i’m back on my bullshit, so here’s a visual chart for every hair colour in awakening to go with the swatches i did a few weeks ago, featuring irene as a test dummy!

/ eyes.
so the things that I’ve noticed pretty consistently with yuri are her eyes. naturally, considering they’re the focus of act 2, no pun intended. anyways.
in act 1, her eyes are orchid purple with traces of red, similar to how natsuki’s are hot pink with gold &. sayori’s are blue with purple. unlike sayori’s &. natsuki’s, however, yuri’s constantly fluctuate in act 2, with eye color changing sporadically between scenes; her eyes during the cutting scene are lavender; her eyes during her confession are flat violet with red tones.
&. then there’s the glitches.
her ‘dragon’ sprite has pure-red snake eyes with purple highlights; her left eye distort; her right eye bursts &. drips blood; etc. most of the effects are minor, of course, being glitches.
still, the fact that the third eye is the heavy focus of act 2, &. eyes are primarily targeted is rather curious to me. although the others get their own respective ‘eye’ moments (natsuki’s eyes bursting, yuri’s comment about monika; “I don’t care if monika’s watching.”), yuri’s are most prevalent.
just felt like babbling about that tbh.

it is just. the Leedle Things(TM) that i love so much about media’s entrance in the CanaTire(TM) Target(TM)
like look at this!!! look at the attention to detail! the subtle way they are driving home that these screens are part of media’s eyes! shadow walked RIGHT in front of media’s eyes in full view and the detail!!! the show chooses to just subtly give us - the fact that that children’s cartoon is watching and looking in the same trajectory as media’s full manifest below is just such a LOVELY little touch. the sportscasters who are media watching themselves watching shadow -
and again, when the screens change - the sportscasters are now watching shadow, the work out crew has stopped moving to watch shadow. the children’s cartoon is still watching shadow. the newscaster below media is watching. everything about these screens says hostile. says anger, even though media themselves presents the encounter as something genial. it’s extremely interesting to look at this as not only an extension of their eyes, but an extension of their body language - these screens could be friendlier, and still watching; but the imagery chosen, while familiar, is actively on the defense. media’s curious. shadow did, after all, go head to head with the technical boy -- and they definitely meant to intimidate him as the scene progressed. STILL - im getting ahead of myself here i just REALLY love the detail in this scene.
