Sigh...12 petits européens (12 little Europeans) was one of my favourite albums, published in 1993 (after the Maastricht Treaty, the EU counted 12 countries then). The little Europeans presented their country in four pages each, and the little British was William.
The book was one of the reasons why I saw the EU as a good thing, (to prevent wars) since my youth, and I had no idea some people did not.
It was especially heartbreaking to read it by now...Note the humor of the train going in a tunnel at the end of the pages of Nicole, the french girl, (”Where does it go?” ) and reappearing in the first page about Britain (the next one). Now there’s a joke running: And now what, they’re going to fill back in the tunnel?
It was reedited later with the new additioned countries, and some changes such as adding Harry Potter to the “immortal British children” (Alice Liddell and Peter LLewlyn Davies, respectively the model of Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan).
Ironically, William is the one who say “goodbye” at the end of the album, along with the Greek little girl....T_T

Sigh...12 petits européens par Nicole Lambert (auteur des Triplés) était l’un de mes albums préférés , publié en 1993 (après le traité de Maastricht, l’UE comptait alors 12 membres). Les petits européens présentaient chacun leur pays sur quatre pages , et le petit britannique était William.
Ce livre faisait partie des raisons pour lesquelles j’ai toujours vu l’UE comme une bonne chose (empêchant les guerres) et n’avais aucune idée que ce n’était pas le cas pour d’autres.
C’est spécifiquement triste de le relire à présent....Noter humour du train qui se dirige vers un tunnel en fin de la dernière page de Nicole, la française, et avatar de l’auteur, et qui reparaît dans la première page sur le Royaume-Uni (la suivante) . Du coup il y a une blague qui circule depuis: Vont-ils reboucher le tunnel maintenant?
Ce fut réédité plus tard avec les nouveaux pays ajoutés, et certains détails additionnels comme Harry Potter ajouté au nombre des enfants britanniques immortels.
Ironiquement, William est celui qui dit au revoir à la fin de l’album, avec la petite fille grecque....T_T
