Machu Picchu, one of the most famous sights in the country of Peru is now in the list of new seven wonders of the world included. Machu Picchu is situated on a ridge above the Urubamba Valley at about 2,400 meters above sea level. Through its cultural and spiritual significance, Machu Picchu was part of the wish list one hundred most endangered sites by the World Monuments Fund in 2008. The stones are not bonded by mortar, but they are still close enough that it is very difficult to fit a small thin knife between.
