As I lay sleeping last night, a Rev War fact drifted up through my subconscious and I jolted awake - what if Alfred gets his last name from John Paul Jones, the "Father of the American Navy" who terrorized Britain's shores during the revolution?

The first ship that Jones ever served on was called the "Alfred."

Washington based painter Tyree Callahan refitted a 1937 Underwood Standard typewriter with colours (by the looks of it, oil pastels) instead of letters, and hues instead of keys. As a result, voila! The so-called Chromatic Typewriter. How useful it is, I'm not sure, but I suppose if Keira Rathbone can make incredible illustrations using an unaltered typewriter, perhaps this chromatic one could prove very useful.
