For this weeks reflection, I’m going to use one of the prompts and talk about why adaptability and flexibility is important not only in design, but in all aspects of life. In a workplace, one absolutely has to be adaptable and flexible with their schedule and life. Things are going to go wrong, and timelines are going to be screwed up and that’s just how it works. A good designer, and I don’t mean like a typical designer, since we are all designers I mean all of us, needs to be able to think on their toes and adapt to the new situation appropriately and be flexible with it.
This happens all over in regular life too. One example I can think for myself is yesterday. I had an entire day planned to study for a midterm, but instead I was asked to bake cake with my friends. I decided to bake cake because uhm, cake, and didn’t get to study. I ended up adapting my study plan to study a little bit more today and tomorrow than I would have liked but I got a good experience out of baking! My real life example isn’t as “crucial” as a customer moving a deadline forward a week and needing to finish a project to seal a deal, but more of being flexible and being able to redesign my schedule without being stressed quickly. That’s why I think adaptability and flexibility are important aspects of our entire lives.
