I photographed this a couple of weeks ago. I almost missed it, as I was waiting at a traffic circle and the car in front of me had just moved.
That kind of guy isn’t uncommon around here: they roam up and down with their rickety carts, collecting soda cans, plastic containers, cardboards… anything they can sell to recycling facilities.
What caught my attention, though, was the little dog hitchhiking on the cart. Look at the man: he’s very poor (doesn’t even have shoes) and by the look of what he carries, probably lives on the streets. And he has a canine friend whom he lets ride on his cart.
What else can I say? That dog found a friend who cares for him. So what if it’s a refuse collector? Dogs demand very little of us, and give so much back.
I wish I could help, but I never saw them again. Still, I’m not sad or worried: they have each other, and sometimes that’s enough.
