All I can say is, if you don't play the live game of RuneScape at the moment, you're going to want to with the start of RS3, because the things that are on the way are amazing.
The Lava Overflow
The "Lava Overflow" Mini-game
Concept by: Regicidal
Requirements:
This mini-game will be unlocked after completing the new Dwarf Quest.
You need at least level 70 Mining and level 60 Smithing to be able to participate.
You must have seen the Liquid Golden Nymph in the Lava Flow Mine once and spoken to her.
How the Mini-game will work:
You need at least 4 people to begin playing this mini-game.
The Lava Overflow will be a world based and instanced mini-game. Anyone can form their own team to play this mini-game (with the instance, such as in PvM), or players who are on the same world can join the mini-game with others who are wanting to play (global).
The mini-game will run constantly. Anyone can start the mini-game with a desired team through the instance feature, or you can play with others through the global team, but you can only get an XP reward from this mini-game twice per hour. That way, people only seeking the rewards can constantly play it, but those seeking the XP can plan their visits to the game accordingly. Which means that the XP rates can be similar to the Tears of Guthix mini-game, which would be based on your mining level on an exponential scale. At 99 mining, the player should be able to get somewhere around 46k XP per game.
The more people on your team for this mini-game, the more difficult it is to mine through the rock.
What you do within the Mini-game:
The point of this mini-game is to free the Liquid Golden Nymph from a crusted rock that she's been captured in. Players have been mining through the crust at the Lava Flow Mine non-stop, and eventually that crust seeped through the lava, built up, and trapped the Golden Nymph within it. There will be lava streams flowing from each side of the room into the rock which will cause the rock to overflow with lava. This rock will be gigantic and impressive looking, maybe it will have an obsidian sheen to it. The rock will have 4 sides, and at all times, 3 out of 4 sides will have lava running down them. Meaning that there will be one side with no lava running down it that players will be able to mine to free the Golden Nymph. Throughout the mini-game, randomly, the side of the rock without lava on it will change, causing players to stop mining the side they were mining, find the side of the rock without lava, and continue mining the correct spot. Players will have a 15 second window to stop mining the side with lava or else they will suffer a consequence. If a player isn't paying attention and mines the side with lava flowing down it, they will receive a message in the chat box saying that their pickaxe has "melted" and they will be kicked out of the mini-game (Which also stops people from purposely messing with the team). If someone is removed from the mini-game, the rock gains back a small amount of armor that was mined away.
There will be four stages to this rock. The full rock, three-quarters rock, half rock and quarter rock. After you mine through the quarter rock, you will free the Golden Nymph. The full rock will be the hardest to mine through because it will have the most armor. As you progress through each stage, the rock will become slightly easier to mine through (less armor) but the lava walls will change more frequently. At the top of the players screen, there will be a "Rock Armor" bar, so you'll be able to see how close you are to finishing each stage. After each stage is completed, there will be a random and different teamwork event that will spawn within the mini-game.
The teamwork events are;
1) Breaking Boilers: The boilers in the room will break, which will need "x" amount of people to fix depending on how many people are in your team. Fixing the boilers will yield 1-9k Smithing experience to each person that helped fix them, due to the random smithing level requirement of the boilers. For example; if the smithing requirement to fix a boiler requires level 10 smithing, it will give each person fixing the boiler 1k smithing xp. If the requirement is level 90 smithing, then it will give each person fixing the boiler 9k xp. The smithing level requirement will be in increments of 10.
2) Fallen Debris: Rock crust debris will randomly fall on top of the lava streams, you'll need ”x" amount of people to mine each debris depending on how many people are on your team. They require level 75 mining to mine and each player who helps mine the debris will be rewarded 1k Mining experience.
3) Drunken Dwarf Beer Challenge: The Drunken Dwarf will appear and the entire team will have to talk and claim a keg of beer from him. Until the whole team claims the keg and drinks it, you'll be unable to mine the rock. When you all have drank the beer, he will go away and you can resume mining the rock, however the rock will be harder to mine and go by slower for your current stage, since you all will be drunk. For the people who don't claim a keg of beer and drink it, they will be removed from the mini-game and players will have to wait 10 seconds before mining the rock again.
4) Lava Control: The lava will overflow out of control causing all 4 sides of the rock to be covered in lava. In order to make one side mineable again, "x" amount of people will have to use a water spell on the rock. It must be a level 70 Water spell or higher in order to be successful and the players who cast the spell will be granted 5k Magic experience.
5) Super Pickaxe: The entire team except for one person will be trapped in by a set of falling lava rocks. That one person has to pick up a super pickaxe that will randomly fall on the ground somewhere within the mini-game and mine everyone free. If the player who is not trapped doesn't pick up the super pickaxe and free the team within a certain amount of time, that player will be removed from the mini-game and a new player will be set free from the falling lava rocks to do the job.
The teamwork events will be random, that way the mini-game isn't always the same and repetitive. Also it gives this mini-game a unique feel to it, being the only mini-game that has these sort of teamwork features.
Rewards:
After your team frees the Golden Nymph from the crusted rock, you will be able to claim a reward from her. Each person on the team can claim a reward, however everyone's reward will be different and based on that players levels. You will also receive your Mining experience for completing the mini-game by claiming your reward from the Golden Nymph.
The guaranteed reward from this mini-game will be an assortment of Ores, Bars and Gems. The higher your Mining, Smithing and Crafting levels, the better Ores, Bars and Gems you will receive. For example, if the player is 75 Mining, 70 Smithing, and 70 Crafting, the player will have a chance to receive Adamantite ore, Mithril bars and Rubies. If the player is 99 Mining, Smithing and Crafting they will have a chance to receive Runite ore, Runite Bars and Dragonstones.
The rare rewards from this mini-game will consist of;
Dwarven Pickaxe (level 71 Mining tool): The Dwarven Pickaxe is something that the Dwarves are extremely proud of. It is a piece of technology that they invented back in the early ages of Gielinor and up until this point, they were the only race to know about it. The Dwarves are still the only race who know how to assemble the Dwarven Pickaxe. A player can randomly receive a piece of the pickaxe from the Golden Nymph. There are 4 pieces to the Dwarven Pickaxe, the Ornamental Top, the Pickaxe Head, the Shaft and the Base. This pickaxe will allow players to mine slightly faster than if they were to mine with a Dragon Pickaxe. Also, the Dwarven Pickaxe has a built in effect of randomly incinerating ores upon mining them which will convert into Smithing experience based on the primary ore you are mining. For example, if you're mining Mithril ore, you have a chance to incinerate the ore and gain Smithing experience according to what you'd receive for smelting a Mithril bar. That way, like the Inferno adze, you won't receive the resource you're going after, but you will gain experience in the supporting skill. When you have all four pieces to the Dwarven Pickaxe, you will have to take the parts as well as a Dragon Pickaxe and a Blast fusion hammer (from the Blast Furnace - costing 1 million gp) to Thurgo and he will combine them for you to make the Dwarven Pickaxe. If you have a Dragon Pickaxe in your tool-belt, Thurgo will be able to remove it in order to make your Dwarven Pickaxe. The Dwarven Pickaxe will not be able to be put onto your tool-belt since it has a built in effect. Once Thurgo makes the Dwarven Pickaxe for you, it will become inseparable. Meaning that you cannot remove the pieces from your Dragon Pickaxe in order to sell it. The pieces to this pickaxe, as well as the completed pickaxe will be non-tradable.
Dwarfsmith Suit
The Dwarfsmith Suit is something that the Dwarves designed to make Smithing a little bit more rewarding. A player can randomly receive a piece of the Dwarfsmith Suit from the Golden Nymph. While the full set of armor is worn, the player will receive a 5% experience boost while Smithing (Similar to the Golden Mining Suit from the Lava Flow Mine). There are 5 pieces to this Dwarfsmith Suit; Helm, Plate, Legs, Gloves and Boots. While wearing the full set of armor, you'll have the same Smithing advantages as if you were wearing the Varrock Armour 4 from the task system. (If you own the Dwarfsmith Plate, you can wear the Varrock Armour interchangeably). Also, you can have the Dwarfsmith gloves take on the effect of the Goldsmithing gauntlets if you talk to Avan outside of the Scorpion Mine in Al-Kharid. The upgraded gloves will stack with the 5% Smithing experience bonus accordingly. The pieces to the Dwarfsmith Suit will be non-tradable.
Changes to the Lava Overflow Mini-game based on the community's feedback.
I introduce to you, the "Lava Overflow" mini-game concept.
Lava Flow Mine Extension?
I have the honor of being able to help design a piece of future content in RuneScape and I want to listen to all of your suggestions for it! After the new dwarf quest is released, the Lava Flow Mine will be getting an extension. If you could make an extension to the Lava Flow Mine, what would it consist of? What would the XP rates be? What rewards would you like to see? What would you like to do within it? Let me know as a response to this post or send it to me on Twitter. (@Regicidal)
