PURE. That was what the other girl was, pure to her very core, incandescent light which burned and pallid doll could only turn and stare, for a moment ( just a moment ) before launching into an inane topic of conversation. The light filled girl likely would not be able to sense the darkness which leeched from every pore of her skin, roiled in her ribcage, lashed out and begged to be set free, to tear her apart limb from limb until nothing was l e f t. ( And if she could? She would. ) Asinine smile quirked at pale lips instead, and she could hear the disgruntled huff of a flower just behind her, the ruffling of its leaves as they crossed. Well, it wasn't as if the Nobody was wrong in her statement, as out of the blue it was.

Soul mate meme.

The first time the other was seen, it is not in person; it is in a memory, one which does not belong to her. Pieces intertwined and interwoven, a beautiful disaster which crumbled with each small touch. But she was seen, fleetingly, a flash of warm blonde and crystalline blue, a dot of something just alongside the dark eternity which was the pupil. But then it was gone, and little more was thought of it. After all, what could possibly be examined from such a moment, from something so small in the span of time; such a memory was easy to put in place, lacking in momentous vigor which denoted those which were most important.

( It wasn't as if she had never seen, had never noticed the small shapes in peoples' eyes, varying in color and shape and shine, all that was held in common was their crystal like radiance. The smudge of star burst-esque midnight blue in Axel's eye, peaking out shyly from beneath his top eyelid, the smudge of bright purple in Riku's along the edge of his iris, the near blinding firework of magenta in Sora's mostly hiding beneath his lower eyelid, tucked near the corner ( its match in——— ). Some people did not have one ( most Nobodies did not; Larxene and Marluxia certainly didn't ) just as she did not. Both eyes bare of star bursts or any such shape which assured her that she had a soul mate. Or at least, one that was ALIVE. )

Any such thoughts slipped from the forefront of her mind as her end came, as her existence became void and her self merged with Kairi's, and she was content. There was, after all, no one in the universe to whom she was absolutely irreplaceable. The only person who could ever hold her in such esteem as supposedly her nonexistent soul mate, and that was alright. It made it far easier to accept that which she could never deny, anyways; the idea of leaving behind someone in the entirety of the universe supposedly made for her was--incomprehensible. In some parts because she genuinely could not understand, but the Nobody imagined that it was something sad indeed.

( Alice felt her eye itch suddenly, a feeling akin to the day when her marker finally appeared ( at such an age, so late in her life no less; BLASPHEMY some would cry, and she was certain that her mother did ) but had brushed it off. It was only later, looking in the mirror, that the loss of such an important thing was noted, so obvious beneath the light, so obvious in her reflection. The near-perfect circle of pale blue was gone and for a time, she was aware of nothing at all, except for the feeling of the world falling apart, of the ground coming up unto her, and she sat there for ages.

Others whispered that her soul mate must have died from an illness of birth, so short was the life of whomever it was. )

And then she returned, and was her own self, no longer a half of a person, no longer part of another so seamless and wholly that there was no way to deny that her own existence was void. Kairi radiated with warmth and happiness and grasped her face with all the gentility in the world and laughed, a lovely sound, a lingering noise, whispering utterances which the blonde could not understand, for she did not have a soul mate. Why would there be a shape, just alongside her pupil, a near-perfect circle of pale blue, when that was an impossibility?

( In WONDERLAND——————in Wonderland Alice feels her eye itch once more, and almost cried of remembrance, and it is only later that the realization that it was as if her soul mate returned to life, because while a person could have more than one soul mate, to have the same shape was nonviable. )

At the end of it, at the very end, their meeting simply goes like this: a wanderer, trying to find her place in the universe, drifting through the worlds and through the populations which did not see her, and a whimsical girl who saw an entire galaxy in a single drop of water, who wanted for nothing and everything. They came together slowly, seamlessly, with all the ease which Naminé had never imagined was possible; they look at each other and knew, and smiled, and the rest? Well.
