i feel like we don’t talk about it enough, and didn’t at the time but that fact ffxv worked the summons (specifically, knights of the round) into the story, outside of being “eternal gods” was so interesting (like, yeah luna is literally chilling with shiva and ardyn has captured ifrit, not to mention bahamut being the bad guy) and considering rebirth has been pulling from a few other games in the franchise, can definitely see the knights being worked actively into the story.
i mean, whilst we’re on seven, if you read into meta-commentary and “fridges” then seven, basically spoils the caelum’s not-so squeaky clean image, particularly somnus’. ever had a proper look that the unsymmetrical sword? you should.
like yeah, they aren’t a summon accessible but these are some of noctis’ key ancestors and you fight them, like you literally fight the knights of the round before they use noctis’ body as a vessel to rid the world of darkness and their own accursed flesh and blood and in doing so, killing their bloodline.
like, think about it. you don’t need the summon because noctis himself is the embodiment of it. you are collecting and summoning their thirteen weapons.
king regis is literally a member of “knight of the round” and you get to see them in all their cgi glory both in kingsglaive and during endgame.
“dad, trust in me.” is without at doubt my favourite line / moment in the game. you can literally see regis’ hesitation in his ‘kings of yore’ form as noctis hold’s out his physical sword to him, telling him it’s okay.
also, let’s not beat around the bush especially when square smacked you over the head with it but regis’ sword is excalibur.
