let me be with you~ (chobitsu)
This is a LBFAD android AU. I called it chobitsu bc it came to me when I heard the Chobits theme randomly. It's not ACTUALLY a Chobits AU, but she does find DFQC discarded in the trash. He's a pleasure model that... doesn't work. Essentially he's fully functioning, except for the aspect he was made for.
Since LBFAD is a story about DFQC recovering his lost emotions, an android discovering his humanity is a pretty obvious parallel.
So she finds him and takes him in, and she's a bit of a hippy (I mean she's a twenty-something botanist who owns a greenhouse), so she just hires him on at her greenhouse and pays him to live and work there.
There's a bit of an asexual storyline to it as well, because he doesn't experience sexual attraction, and from the getgo he offers to go in to a technician and get repaired, but XLH is like no??? you're fine as you are??? He pushes for this again, once they hook up, and he does feel guilty because he knows this is literally what he was made for. But to XLH, he's just a person, so she doesn't like the idea of him altering himself for her. She wants all his development and growth to be organic.
Anyway he is eventually able to come into a sexual relationship on his own, after they've been together for a while, so yeah demisexual story.

Could androids get bank accounts? Xiao Lanhua wasn’t sure. She cursed herself for the fact that she spent most of her ethics course in college daydreaming of her classmate, Changheng and doodling flowers in her notebook.
“Ahhhh never mind, I’ll just pay you in cash,” Xiao Lanhua reasoned.
“You’re going to pay me?” Dongfang Qingcang asked, raising his eyebrows.
“Of course.” She looked at him quizzically. “You’re working in my greenhouse, aren’t you?”
“That isn’t the standard. You are already providing housing,” he replied. “And I don’t know anything about flowers.”
“I’ll teach you.” She shrugged. “In the meantime, just help me where I ask. Plus, you’re pretty enough you might be able to bring some customers in.”
