Informational flows creating ecomyopia in the longue durée. Managing higher population densities requires greater power of elites to segregate information environments and symbolically repress dissent. Humans are tool users and fetishize technology, which leads to greater substitution of biological systems with technological systems. Generational memory is stronger when population density is lower and information environments are more integrated among people. Generational memory and techno-substitution canalize possible post-crash outcomes (e.g. population crash, economic bust, massive emigration) into templates symbolically manipulated by surviving elites, which leads to future ecomyopias.
