Hueco Mundo was his, and his alone. Every grain of sand painted the path of his conquest, the expanse of his domain. The open sky the only limits of his grand palace. The erection of Las Noches was an affront to his kingdom, an eyesore that stood in blatant opposition to the laws known to all Hollows, and proved only the the Shinigami cur was limited to a physical construct of power. Pathetic.

King Baraggan Louisenbairn needed no such proof.

The Arrancar that prostrated themselves in droves before him required not the presence of stone walls and artificial daylight. His enemies who cowered in fear did not because of his architectural hobbies, or teatime fancies.

All who entered the Hollow World knew immediately whose whims they were at the mercy of. And it was not some boy straying too far from home, with delusions of grandeur.

But an open confrontation would bestow credence to the child’s claims, and preposterous boasts of a right, or authority to rule. It would dub thee a worthy competitor, paint a tale that he was more than an ant. No, the Shinigami would be allowed to play his little game. Either he would be crushed by the Shinigami, or they by him. In either case time would prevail, and both would join the rubble of Las Noches as yet another dust mite within his grand Kingdom.

Else the guillotine would fall upon them all, and once more all would know where God resided.

The world had always been dark. People distant, shapeless things. Passing fancies, empty words. Everything cast in heavy, saturated shadows.

It was his burden to see the truth of things. To look past the distractions, the concessions to evil. It was he, and he alone, who would need to stand stalwart against the slew of horrors out there, forever encroaching on what little good was left in the world.

But alone no longer.

A column of light shone harshly from within the shadows, purging the shroud and piercing the miasma. It defied reality, rejected passivity. It was a beacon of hope for those who might despair, might yet succumb to the lure of indifference in spite of their resolve.

How easily he was drawn to the light, coaxed to the flame and the warmth he had so long ago forgotten. Words that had been empty erupted with meaning, purpose blossomed into what almost felt like hope, dare he to allow it passage through his heart.

Justice might yet prevail, but only by the will of Aizen Sōsuke.
