The female reindeer are looking a little tired these days. With every right, as BABIES ARE JUST A FEW WEEKS AWAY!
Reindeer have an 8 month gestation period and calves are able to walk within an hour of birth and run several miles within a couple hours of birth! Talk about precocious offspring...
Another fun fact: Reindeer milk is some of the richest of any terrestrial mammal, at 20% fat (compared to cow milk’s measly 5% fat). The high fat content gives the calves a head start on life, and calves can be weaned after one short month.
