On jet too, on my 4th year, 5th next year *fist bump*
Nice~ It’s always nice to find other people who’ve stayed longer :D

What prefecture are you in? :D
I’m in Hokkaido! When I got into JET one of my friends joked that I would probably end up in Hokkaido just because it’s so far away from everything, so when I got my placement I actually got mad at him for a minute because he totally jinxed me haha. But I actually really like it up here~ It’s beautiful and everyone is super nice.

How is JET? I’m mostly worried about the dress code and not being able to save while I’m in Japan but I’m dying to get back.
Personally I’ve had a really good experience with JET. I know not everyone does, because it has a lot to do with where you’re placed. My rent and bills are relatively low so I haven’t really had a hard time with saving money (though the current exchange rate kills me a little bit inside every time I send money home). The dress code at the schools I go to isn’t too intense. I tend to just wear button-up shirts with cardigans. And as long as they’re not blue jeans I wear jeans pretty often? Like dark gray or black ones. I’ve also worn green jeans to school. When I first got here I dressed up more, but then I just kind of looked at what the rest of the teachers were wearing and adjusted.
I honestly have been having a great time here, but I know a lot of that has to do with where I am. That’s the bad thing about JET. Everything about your experience depends on your placement and you don’t really have any control over that. I have friends who came here and had a terrible time and left after one year, but I also know people who’ve been here just as long as me and are loving it. Either way I think it’s a good experience.

Had buds in JET (while I went private), hooray for your resilience. I bolted after two years, back to Boston for grad school.
When I first got here I was actually only planning on staying for two years, but my placement ended up being really awesome so staying here longer has been pretty easy :) I’m probably gonna end up going back to school when I get back to the US and am nervous about/not looking forward to it, so hooray for your resilience too!!
