@biggergiants​ asked: chocolate making and baking were not things he was good at. doing things with his hands, sure; he can create a board like the best of them and that’s when the idea sparks in his mind, leading to days on end making her own board. the wheels are inspired by those in rollerblades, the design in pinks and purples, sakura petals intricately drawn onto the surface. so when he finally hands her a large box on white day at the skatepark, he can only hope she likes it. “UH - happy white day!”

     With White Day falling on a Sunday this year as well, she'll be getting her return gifts tomorrow at school, and it’ll be a nice way of distracting herself from the fact that she’ll probably be spending her first birthday in Okinawa alone. But even if tomorrow’s anxiety is more of less taken care of, today’s is still going, so she puts on her rollerblades and heads out to clear her minds. Alice would be lying if she said a certain sunshiny person hadn’t been populating her thoughts, or that heading to the skatepark didn’t have anything to do with the possibility of meeting him. And when she sees him there, it feels a little bit like an early present from the universe. Rolling up to him with a smile, she stops when a large box is suddenly offered to her. “Oh. Thank you! It’s so big, though. What is it?” 

Bringing it over to one of the benches, she sits down and opens the lid, an audible gasp escaping her lips at the sight of a skate board! Her own board! So pink and cute and flowery! Taking it out, she notices how the wheels are different from what she’s seen on his board and even Langa-kun’s. “Is this really for me, Reki-kun..?” She finds his gaze looking like a child at Christmas, full of awe and wonder as she holds the board preciously to her chest. “Did you make it?” She’d seen him fiddling with their boards before, but actually constructing one start to finish? That’s amazing!

Considering they’d already hugged once before - he’d asked permission for it when she had given him his valentine’s day gift, which was incredibly sweet in itself - she sees no problem in doing the same, and leans in to warmly wrap her arms around him. “I love it! Thank you so much!” Squeezing him a little more before letting go, Alice turns her attention back to the board and affectionately runs her fingers over the painted details. “Oh, you’ll have to teach me though. I have no idea how you guys can even stay standing on top of your boards.”

Actually I was also curious about Reki and your self ship with her. From what little I know about her, I just think she's cool and I love her vibe. Although I don’t have much information right now to jump off of, so I’m not really sure what to ask specifically… So really, I would be content with whatever you might tell me about her and your s/i.

Though, I guess, the most important question is – while you previously said that Reki takes the role of your caretaker in the relationship dynamic, I want to know how you interact apart from that. How do your personalities interact, what do you like to talk about with each other?

Also, I read Reki’s page on the fandom wiki, but still couldn’t understand a few things. Or rather, I have my guesses, but I’d like to know for sure. The dream she had in the cocoon – what exactly was it about? Do I understand correctly that she has committed suicide in her past life? And what exactly happens to a haibane on their day of flight, after they cross the wall? What determines when does the haibane take their flight?

ohoho!!! wow thanks so much for taking so much interest and reading thru her wiki page. so. please please pleaaaase watch haibane renmei. it is one of my favorite anime of all time. it's a very existential, psychological anime that examines a lot of themes about personal identity, grief and life's purpose. a lot of the questions you have are intentionally open-ended questions for you to sit on while you reflect on the themes. nobody knows when a haibane's day of flight will be, it just happens and takes them swiftly and abruptly. it's an allegory for suicide, or at the very least the acceptance of death. we never see what's past the walls either, and we just get to speculate on what their lives are like now, and never truly get closure.

the dreams in the cocoon are essentially the haibane's last look at their previous life, i think. or at least a symbolic dream about their previous life. we mostly see the protagonist, Rakka's, explored the most, but Reki's gets a bit of screentime near the end of the series. Haibane are named based on what their dream was, as that dream will help them find their true self. when they find their true self is when they will take their day of flight. my s/i doesn't have a name yet but is heavily based on my fictive source, roxas kingdomhearts lol. i've been debating having xir name be Yuuyami (spelled 夕闇) as a reference to Yuuyami Doori Tankentai, and since 夕闇 's kanji is relevant to my personal story. 夕 being twilight / dusk and 闇 meaning darkness. I don't speak Japanese, I just have Japan Autism and like to do research. The kanji in names ends up being important in Haibane Renmei, gently, so I wanted to find something fitting. i'm not super sure on it yet

xir personality is heavily extrapolated from how i act in 358/2 days, where i'm kind of a nonfunctioning husk for a solid third of my existence, then get really sentimental about my friends, and then filled with a strong sense of justice as my day of flight approaches.

anyways- since i struggle with a really strong detachment from reality, and reki helped me explore ways to express that in art. i'm one of the very first haibane under reki's care after kuramori's day of flight, and right after she started exploring painting after losing her. so we hone our skills together, have a lot of long talks, and make a lot of beautiful art together :] . A lot of what we talk about pertains to the themes of the show, what it means to be a person, what reality truly is beyond the town, how to process emotions and what grief does to a person. stuff like that.

i also enable her rebellious tendencies more than we should. it ended up biting us both in the ass several times, which is why she's such a hardass with the rules with Rakka.

soooo anyways tldr: i need to work on my s/i more lol

What first stood out to about Reki vs now? What were her first impressions of you vs now? :o

honestly i really gravitated to her because she looked like one of my verrrry first childhood ocs! my dad and i were really into the first disgaea game, and I had a pair of units in that game named Stevie and Lindsey. they're actually major characters in my hazbin paracosm! anyways. lindsey was based off the samurai units, which look like this!

which is just a bit surface-level similar enough for me to be a little sentimental about her design. seeing her as a stone cold motorcycle riding, cigarette smoking butch lesbian with a sweet heart just absolutely killed me. what i love about Reki now is the inner mechanisms of her identity, and what she goes through. her struggles are so familiar, so human, and spoke really deeply to me. i wanted to be with her through the absolute pits of her lowest moments. i love her mind, and i want to see her grow.

as for what she thinks of me, i think she originally felt a lot of sense of purpose in caring for me. she used my intensive care to truly live up to kuramori's vision for her and it brought her some personal closure. but as she got to know me as a person, i like to think she values my unique worldview and the way i ask questions. i imagine so many long, emotional, philosophical talks with her and there's something just so intimate about that.

ooo you wanna talk about what makes your stomach churn with butterflies when you think of ur wife oooo

talking abt stomach turning makes me think of reki's art... her art is so macabre, and melancholy. the way she guards it so deeply, and her fear of vulnerability due to her immense loss just. ugh. makes my heart ache for her. and she hides all of this talent in pursuit of caring for others. when she need that care the most.

while she's beautiful on the surface, nothing really gets me unlike that kind of artistic expression of vulnerability

i think you mean reki with this one hehehe reki's imagery in haibane renmei is so striking and important to me. she has taught me to find the beauty in small stones on my walks outside. i love her.

i do think the theme i accent haibane renmei is reki's grief. reki is an f/o i imagine in the role of a romantic caretaker for me. She throws herself into caring for all of the charcoal feathers to her detriment and my particular condition is fragile. I'm severely underdeveloped, and am unable to perform a lot of the requirements of a haibane, and rely on her as my carer. she ends up trying to find a sense of purpose in trying to be present in our relationship and care for me. My lore takes place after kuramori's day of flight, but before rakka's arrival. reki and I were together for several years before my day of flight and then the events of the show. so i'm literally the dead girlfriend to further the plot along lol

cuz i'm a roxas fictive, i modeled reki and i's relationship on axel and i's in 358/2 days, where he was practically my caretaker.

my health slowly worsens over the years we spend together and i go on my day of flight before she does. i realize my own personal self worth and have a whole character arc about it. she grieves me and it furthers along her character arc in rakka's story until she has her own day of flight and we're reuinited
