Hanako:
Being a ghost and not able to touch you himself, Hanako can’t help but feel a little jealous when you go up to your friends and relatives and greet them with a bear hug and a peck on the cheek. Even your friends parents got to receive them from you.
And he knows it’s a popular greeting in Hispanic culture and there’s no real meaning behind it… but he knows it can never be him.
“Hanako, why are you so sad today, Mi Amor?” You ask as you stand next to him against the railing of the old campus building. “What’s wrong? Tell me.”
The stubborn ghost only pouts and looks away. “Nothing. There’s nothing wrong…”
“Hanako, don’t lie to me. You know I can see right through you~” You joked, causing your lover to turn around in faux anger.
“That was low! And you just made me feel worse!” He pouted, floating into the corner. “Didn’t have to point it out that I’m not able to touch you and show you my love the way I want to and the way you show affection to others… kissing cheeks and hugging… should be me…” He groveled, still pouting.
Oh. So that’s what this was about.
“Hanako… I know it’s hard for you… it’s hard for me too… but we just… have to make the best of it until we can figure something else out…”
A mischievous smile rose on his face. “Say, Darling… have you ever wanted to breathe underwater~?” He asked, slowly turning to face you.
“Well I mean yeah, who hasn’t. I mean it’s a pain when you accidentally inhale water and you start choking and dying. Duh.” You replied as though his question was stupid.
“What if I told you I had a special little thing that could help you do that, and would allow us to touch—”
“I’m not swallowing a mermaid scale with you.”
Ouch.
“Why not?! I thought you loved me!” He yelled in exaggerated disbelief.
“Ay dios mio, Hanako…”
Kou:
He’s jumpy and insecure anyways… and this obviously non-romantic gesture is not helping. Whenever you go over to greet your friends or guests at a party, you kiss their cheeks with a warm smile and even warmer embrace. It’s not that he doesn’t understand it’s a cultural habit, but he can’t help but feel insecure about his relationship with you.
“Kou! Come say hi to Nene!” You grabbed him excitedly by the hand as you went to the front door to greet your classmate, letting go of Kou’s hand to wrap Yashiro in a tight hug before kissing her cheeks. “¡Estoy tan feliz de que estés aquí, Nene! I didn’t think you’d make it! Oh! Kou’s here too! Where’d he go…” you trailed off before letting her go and walking into the house full of people to look for your boyfriend.
“Kou?” You called out, winding through the crowd. “Kou?” You called again, squeezing past people until you ended up in your room, entering to see Kou sitting on your bed in a ball.
“Kou… ¿Qué pasó, Mi Amor? Why are you up here by yourself?”
“It… it’s nothing. It’s stupid.” He buried his head in his knees, trying not to seem weak in front of you as you stared him down, gently stroking his hair. “Clearly it’s not stupid if it’s making you upset. Please tell me what’s wrong… I don’t like seeing you like this.”
He lifted his head up slightly, just enough so you could see the blush covering his cheeks. “I got jealous when you greeted Nene like that… I’ve been getting jealous over it all day…” he hid his face again. “I know it doesn’t mean anything!” He quickly defended himself, waving his hands around nervously. “I just can’t help it…”
His blush grew deeper as you wrapped your arms around him tightly. He could feel your warmth and love as you squeezed him gently. “Kou… I’m sorry I didn’t realize how it made you feel. But you know you’re always the first one in my mind and in my heart.” You leaned over and softly kissed his cheek before laying your head on his shoulder.
“R-Really?” He stuttered, his heart almost beating out of his chest.
