A jinbei (甚平) is a traditional Japanese two-piece summer outfit consisting of a loose kimono-style top and matching shorts or trousers. Historically it was mainly worn as comfortable indoor or loungewear, but today it is also commonly worn outdoors, especially at summer festivals or in casual settings.
Jinbei were originally made from linen, though modern versions are often made from cotton, cotton-linen blends, or cotton mixed with synthetic fibers. The fabric is usually loosely woven and highly breathable for hot and humid weather. A distinctive feature is the small slits around the shoulders, which improve ventilation.
