Once Upon a Time
“We must let go of the life we have planned... to accept the one that is waiting for us.” -Joseph Ball
Remember the age of the diaries? Heart-shaped double keys, voice activated pass-codes, bedazzled pink fortresses for the most secretive of young girl thoughts marketed towards middle school girls looking for a place to lock away their dreams. Girls who were told that dreams really did come true and fairytales were real. Girls who watched Disney princess after Disney princess find her happily ever after.
Girls who were never told that the trick to happiness is recognizing that everyone’s happily ever after is different. That not every princess journey is identical. That each one is unique and that it’s your happily ever after and not the happy ever after. Because life actually happens. We grow up, we screw up, we stumble. We trip over the jagged cobblestone thats makes up the roads of life. No one mentioned the roads were uneven, or rocky, or end suddenly, or undergo construction. No one warned us that unless we figure this out, it will hinder us dramatically. Until we can let go of the fairytales and abandon the idea of perfection, we will never truly be happy. We will just continue to chase a story that isn't ours, that doesn't belong to us.
So let go of what you've planned. Forget about the pre-made timeline that you’ve set for yourself. Because once you do, your happily ever after will be right there waiting.
