If you're a fan of YA dystopian future series... I present to you a recommendation...

Forget Tomorrow, Remember Yesterday, and Seize Today (in that order) by Pintip Dunn

Forget Tomorrow introduces you to a world where everyone receives a memory from their future self on their seventeenth birthday.

Callie Stone has spent her whole life looking forward to getting hers, seeing some (supposedly) concrete proof of who she'll turn out to be... But when that fateful day arrives, her vision shows her murdering her beloved younger sister Jessa. Callie can't make sense of this vision, as she's always gone to great lengths to protect her little sister, who can see short stretches into the future. In this world, people with psychic abilities are locked up and experimented on.

She's thrown in jail immediately after her vision is revealed but is broken out by a childhood friend whose family has ties to a secret underground rebellion who've rejected the idea that a few minutes of a memory from the future should get to determine your whole life in this society. They escape to the Underground's forest commune... but Callie makes the decision to return to civilization when she hears that her sister's been discovered and locked up for her power, deciding to do whatever she can to save her... even when her own future memory has revealed that she might be the biggest threat.

We've all seen a million 'rebelling against a dystopian government' stories at this point, but this series does so many cool things... I love the themes it plays with and the bigger questions it asks... It introduces things like time travel and parallel worlds-- and does both fairly successfully, I'd say-- which feel like such ambitious concepts for a story like this one. I don't want to spoil the first book, but I will say there's a time skip between one and two that allows you to see who some of the child characters in book one grow up to be, which I also thought was really cool. Totally on-brand with a story that's all about trying to predict the future and analyzing how much free will a person really has in a world where everything's believed to be predetermined...

I can't help feeling like this series should have gotten so much bigger than it did... And like maybe it didn't primarily because it skips the one trope I hate most: the love triangle. (Each book does have a romance as a pretty strong storytelling component, but when there's romantic drama, it's for other, generally more compelling reasons. If you're usually drawn to these types of stories for the romances, I really don't think you'll be disappointed. But I also want to note that, if you're like me, and that aspect isn't usually your favorite thing... This series has just as strong a focus-- if not a stronger one-- on the familial relationships involved, which I find to be a huge point in its favor.)

I definitely recommend giving this series a shot if this is your kind of genre.
