joe was a sweet kid, a little rough around the edges, sure, but sweet. things didn’t become so negative until he saw war; he liked looking at both sides of a coin in the figurative sense and seeing the good in folks. in catholic school, the nuns almost regretted smacking his left hand when he tried to write with it.

♥ - family headcanon

he had a rocky relationship with his dad when he had to drop out of high school to work in the mines. he put his resentment over how unintelligent he felt on him. it changed with time.

ൠ - random headcanon

at first, joe was nothing less than pissed about missing a leg, but he got right through that. like. he went from thinking, “it should’ve been different. i should’ve fucking done something,” to finding the loss of a leg hilarious. he took high amounts of joy from scaring kids shitless around halloween time by kicking his shoes off on his front porch, waiting for trick-or-treaters, and showing off the the neatly painted, clawed foot he got with his prosthetic leg.
