THANK YOU for giving me the excuse to talk about them!

Remi Gabena is 5 years older than Yvonne. He's 8 when their father leaves, promoting him to man of the house; he's 11 when he packs up, disappears to Paldea, and never comes back.

It might've been Grace's unrealistic expectations for him fulfilling that role, or what felt like overwhelming responsibility, or it might've been teenage angst. Either way, he knew his little sister wholeheartedly believed he was on a day trip to Lumiose when he walked out the door.

He spends the next few years chickening out in other regions while Cyclizar racing for an income, guilt-ridden and trying to avoid Kalos, genuinely too cowardly to see his family again.

Yvonne was 6 when her brother walked out, and it devastated her. The whole group knew him, he babysat them their whole lives; they came together around her family to support them. She and Grace move on from him, they're masters at grudges.

Remi's 17 when he works up the courage to go back and see them. He arrives to find the town in smoking ruins from Xerneas and Yvetal's fight. His mother and sister are nowhere to be found.

He miraculously finds a little girl under the rubble-- that he manages to identify as Shawna's little sister, who was a baby when he left. They witness people in red suits piling bodies onto trucks and narrowly escape with their lives thanks to Cyclizar.

Remi & Tasha flee across the region from place to place, not knowing if their families are alive or dead. This happens simultaneously with the XY arc-- R & T even end up staying with Cassius a few days after Y's group leaves. Remi has to care for Tasha who's just about the same age as Y was when he left, realise how young she was when he abandoned her, and feel TERRIBLE. Single father age 17 AMEN. This is the meat of the whole arc covering all the various kalos cataclysm effects to my heart's desire + Emma!!, she's also here

Yvonne is bitter enough to not want him around, when they reunite. Shawna's overwhelmingly grateful that he protected Tasha with his life. X fully backs Yvonne but is still a little bit starstruck, remnants of the way he admired Remi as a little kid. Grace doesn't know if she should open her doors for her son to come home. They figure it out one day at a time.
