Ifiriti—basically French fries—are a staple of my diet. They're delicious and potatoes are fairly cheap. Today I was told that ifiriti are only for rich people, because the oil to deep fry them is too expensive for most people to afford. It's easy to get comfortable here or to only instagram the cute, the beautiful, the clean. Today I had four different children visit me, all from families too poor to pay the school fees to send them to even the 'free' day schools. In a country where education is listed as a human right, many people live at a poverty level that makes education impossible. Don't let my pretty pictures fool you into thinking that this country does not have great need. The very children who are it's potential for tomorrow are living vulnerable lives. This is why I am here. To serve children whose families cannot afford French fries. #peacecorpsRwanda #therealreason #remindersfrommyfries
