REMAux1 - Family Matters

Okay let’s get this shit knocked out. We catch up with Eva in her isolation at her Uncle Leith’s house in DSV. She’s so bored she’s been trying on her Aunt Sofi’s old dresses from when she was an actress. In the midst of this one of her mom’s arrive to give her some news. 

Thea teases her for what she’s wearing. 

Then gets right to the topic at hand. The family has decided to drop charges on Fin due to the recent events with his mother. That they may need to Rask boys on their side for shit that could be coming. 

Then she asks Eva for her opinion on the issue with Estra and Malachi. To which Evangeline replies that she thought it had been decided. 

Thea then states she doesn’t exactly agree with her little brother and that because she is the leader of their family she has every right to overrule him when they go to talk to Levi. 

She also adds she didn’t punish Roxanne like Frey wanted so he’s already upset with her over the whole thing. 

Eve then asks what is to be done with her, would she remain there or if she was free to go yet. Thea gives her the good news that she was now officially divorced and would be leaving but that it was on a trip rather than back to her old way of life. Just glad to get out of her cage, Eva is pleased for change. 

She is also given her phone back when she’s freed and whines that they could have at least let her have that. Four months of social media is rough to miss. 

Arriving at the airport she runs into her cousin Julian waiting for her. She’s surprised that the family would make him her security but he confesses that’s not why he’s there. That they’re both being sent away. 

As the named heirs of the different branches of the family it is thought they’d be safer kept away from the trouble brewing between The Exiles and the other Kasri. 

Eva is annoyed by this news. She thought she was finally going to be somewhat free to live her life again. Trying to make her feel better Julian points out that they’ve been given quite a hearty allowance to live off of in their travels. 

And with that the two cousins make their way to Simovia and to an uncertain future.

And that’s all the REM there is folks.

Four months of social media and news to catch up on. Could it have killed Uncle Leith to leave the sat on at least so she could keep up on tv?

“I see you’re enjoying having your phone back.” A familiar voice interrupted Eva’s mindless stream. 

“Oh... hey Jules.” She couldn’t help but smirk at her little cousin. It was still weird this lazy ass kid was actually working for the family now, “They sent you to be my security detail? Really?” 

“She didn’t tell you did she?” He replied flatly, his voice dripping with his usual disinterest, “This isn’t a normal vacation, they’re sending us away.”

“You going to the fashion show too?” Eva asked genuinely curious if he’d been roped into representing the family there as well. 

“Oh no, fuck that.” He laughed nervously. Yeah probably something like that would be a bit much for him. 

“Maybe you’ll meet somebody.” She pressed, only half joking. In recent years Estra had mused to her that all it’d probably take is one pretty girl looking at him right to break his innocence. 

“A society girl? No thanks. I will attempt to be more outgoing on this trip though. I promise. Had some practice thanks to work.” 

“You better, you know I don’t like cartoons.” Eve groaned remembering weekends at Uncle Frey’s when a teenage Julian had command over the main tv. 

“What if they’re adult cartoons?” 

“It’s all the same to me Jules.”

“Well look at it this way,” Julian put his arm around her reassuringly, “at least you’re not going to be alone this time.” 

“Small consolation cousin.” Eve grumbled dismissively, though she did have admit to herself that it was some comfort to know she’d have someone. Esther had been around back at the house in DSV but she had a her own things going on. She also was better in small doses and could get obnoxious quickly, at least Jules was quiet and predictable.

“And hey, they did give us a rather generous spending limit so we can punish their pockets for it.”

“Heh, I do like the sound of that.” Eva smiled as she suddenly remembered the joys of shopping on her mother’s dime, “You ever been to Simovia Jules?”

“Nope.” 

“Me either. Guess we’ll have to take in all the sights.” 

“Well fuck Evie, it’d be rude not to.” Jules agreed readily, though she wondered to herself how much he’d really do. This was a boy that had been notoriously agoraphobic most of his life but perhaps this trip would be good for both of them.

“So listen, I know you think I’m probably here to stir up some fucking information for my dad but... this is actually a personal call. He didn’t send me, your dad did.” 

“Oh yeah? What’s the old man want? He knows how to use a fucking phone if he wants to talk to me. Or fuck it’s not like he couldn’t come find me, you sure as fuck had no problem doing it.” 

“There’s just a lot of shit going on, especially with your clan, you know that. Fuck you were in the thick just a couple weeks ago. Your brother’s life is fucking imploding publically and on top of it well... Olin, your mom is very sick. We’re trying to help, but she can’t shift anymore so she can’t leave the house and your dad doesn’t want to leave her there alone. Please, can you come home? Just for a while? You know it would mean a lot to them.”

“What? Why would they do that?” Evangeline felt a cotton ball form in her throat. Her mother had spoken of only new beginnings and how good it would be to get away. There was no mention of ulterior motives. It was just like her family to play games with the truth though.

“They told you about the fire right?” Julian mumbled, “That it wasn’t an accident?” 

“Yeah sort of but what does -” He cut her off before she could query more, her guess was that her cousin didn’t want to say too much in such an open public space. 

“That’s just kind of the tip of what’s going on.” He continued, “Anyway since we’re legally the primary heirs to all of that Yager shit I guess they want to put us a little out of reach.” 

“So I’m just trading one fucking prison for another?” For once Eva felt some kinship with her more wild cousins. Perhaps they meant well but her mother and uncle should have at least been more forward about what was going on. Julian probably only knew as much as he did thanks to his job. So much for being included.

“Hey Ollie..”

“Hey Juley. Here to ask more incredibly awkward questions about all those times I slept with your sister?”

“I cannot believe you’re a fucking company man. Last time I saw you all you wanted to do was sit around on the fucking sofa stoned off your ass watching daytime tv.” 

“I still like doing that shit man. Just now, now I’ve got fucking responsibilities take care of on commercial breaks. This shit… this shit with Eva and Estra is fucking dumb though. Tired of dealing with it.” 

“Then quit, not like you couldn’t find something else to do.” 

“Heh, and live outside the family?” 

“It’s not that hard. Just gotta put the fucking time in, meet other people that aren’t like you. You know.. maybe some actual humans?” 

“Maybe, but fuck man, you of all people should know I’m one lazy piece of shit.”
