Theory: Penny will get the Winter Maiden powers
My reasonings?
1.) We’ve literally only heard about Winter being the Winter Maiden, and Cinder trying to steal them this volume, so Penny gaining them would subvert our expectations as an audience. Between that, and that mini theory about Neo getting the powers because it was foreshadowed in Chibi, I think we have a LOT of candidates that people are considering before Penny.
2.) It could either help or hinder Penny and Pietro’s aura problem, which would create/solve a major conflict introduced this volume. We don’t know what’s going to happen if Penny takes the Maiden powers. On one hand, maybe it would fix the aura problem? On the other hand, it could result in Penny taking the remaining aura that Pietro has? I just think that whatever happens if she takes them could take the conflict in a big direction, but I’m still deciding which way.
3.) It would be the final step in proving to the audience that Penny is a real girl. I feel like so many people haven’t considered Penny as a candidate because she’s “synthetic,” but if she gains the Maiden powers, it would make sense since they’ve taken the entire volume to establish that she’s free thinking and has a heart and soul, especially given the new conversation with Winter about how she feels that Ironwood is wronging Mantle.
