'we need to add 6000 seats to congress' no, actually, we don't, and headlines like this are both as effective and as helpful as 'We need to set the minimum wage to $150/hr' it's nothing except fodder for the outrage machine, it's astroturfing.
The '6000' seats thing is the nightmare scenario that was 'prevented' by the cap on the House of Representatives, and it's like saying we can only ever use that one old formula to determine the size of our Congress, and since 2+2=4 that obviously means we'd need many many thousands of Representatives.
But it doesn't fix the problem, actually. What does is the Wyoming Rule:
The smallest population region becomes the district size. Wyoming = 1. Every other State/territory is afforded an amount of reps according to how many 'Wyomings' (population # not land size) fits into that state's population.
We'd end up with like roughly 1200 Reps. That's absolutely reasonable and doable.
Remove the Cap and Enact the Wyoming Rule.
Gee, what a good idea! Wonder why nobody has thought of it before...
