The Renaissance Experience
Not everything you go to is worth telling online on a blog. Sometimes stories and experiences are best told as random stories on a bright sunny day. Or sometimes saved for a rainy one. Nevertheless, the story I want to tell you has enough weight, oddness and development to share.
Naturally, I always go head first into an opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy the events and places to go. I'm a homebody at heart and I love staying home and just relaxing or doing random things that make up a day. In any case, when someone asks me if I would like to go somewhere it is just the right medicine I need. So, of course, I can never say no if time allows and i'm not swamped by assignments.
Anyway, I was invited by my friend Shawn to go with him to the Renaissance Festival on Saturday. I accepted and for a small backstory I have been to the Restival 2 times before with my ex when we were dating at the time. So getting a chance to go again after 2 years is COOL!
I wanted to experience being around people dressing up, feeling the vibe of that culture and watch people try on and buy expensive clothes. If only I could afford that stuff let alone look good in it. Hey, ya never know. :)
Me and Shawn decide to just cruise around and just look at everything before fully emerging into the shops. We are passing by a Gemshop and as we do I catch this small little area where this girl was behind this large contraption. It had running water and little trays, which were sifters. I decided to go and talk to the girl mainly because she looks lonely, kinda tired and I was more or less curious on what this contraption is.
I approach her and ask her kindly what this thing is. She tells me that inside you get bags full of dirt and inside are all sorts of gemstones hidden inside. You bring the bag to her and you dump it into one of the trays and wash away the dirt. Once the gemstones are revealed she will tell you all sorts of facts and you get to keep them all.
Now, of course, very curious about all this I had in the back of my mind that I may come back and try this. The girl was very nice and cordial with me and out of silliness she leans forward goes to one of the trays and picks out this tiny gemstone spec. She reaches it towards me and says, " Merry Christmas, here you go this is a Peridot stone."
I say, "Oh ok, cool! Thank you." Mind you this stone was a spec and could be lost within the next few minutes. She proceeds to tell me (because I wasn't think at the time) that the Peridot stone is the month of August.
…Mind you throughout this story I never told you or her my birth month.
August is my birth month.
I looked at her and I just gazed at her with surprise and said, "You're joking right?" she replies with no she wasn't and of course I tell her my birth month is August. She smiles and just as surprised as I am. She then turns to Shawn and says " We're you born in January?" Shawn replies with a yes and the girl hands him a spec too and says, "here you go that's a Garnett, that's Janurary's birthstone"
Keep in mind she may know the stones but she didn't have them readily available for us. She just so happened to have these tiny specs. We carried on a conversation for a bit just enthralled by this mere coincidence.
I don't know what it means, don't know what that symbolizes but I just felt like I was at the right place and the right time and THAT is always a comforting thought.
What do you guys think?
