Instead of pulling Lillie into a hug like her instincts told her to (it’s important to respect the space of a child who’s gone through so much, after all), Burnet settled for lightly resting her hands on her shoulders. Truth be told, worry wasn’t so much what caused the relief she now felt as she glanced over the girl- Lillie was truly plenty capable, after all. It was more like the old saying: “Distance makes the heart grow fonder,” or however it went.
After a moment Burnet stepped back to give the blonde some room, hands going back to their spot resting on her hips.
