Step by step of how to beautifully render a wall
Step 1 - Prepare the wall to start of your rendering. If your wall has already been rendered and it is failing apart, start by raking or sawing as much plaster as you can of the wall. When that render is removed wet the wall as well as you can with a water supply.
Step 2 - Combine and mix the render together. Renders is a mix of just 3 ingredients. Water, lime and sand. Portland cement can be switched for a portion of lime, which will be a stronger, but less airflow plaster. Use any lime putty, or lime. Mix 3 parts sand and 1 part lime in a big bucket. You use angular grains, sand and sharp. Also add water to shape the combination into a stiff paste.
Step 3 - Put the scratch coat of render on to the wall. Render is more powerful when it is out on in loads of layers, the first layer is called a scratch coat. Apply the render as strenuously as you can, to make sure it keys into the wall. Even the render across the wall with trowel.
Step 4 - Scratch the first layer of render to get it ready for the next coat. When the first coat of render has been put on but not set as of yet, scratch the surface throughout the wall to supply a key for the new layer to adhere to.
Step 5 - Lastly apply the second coat of render tot the wall. If the first coat has been scratched and been able to set mostly, wet the wall. Apply the last coat of render the same way you did before with the other one. now let the render dry slowly and set.
