Kirito finds the jewelry amongst certain other items he obtains and purchases in game, rather sentimental. He'll more than likely always think of it deeper than other's do. No matter what the jewel is, or ornament he purchases for them, he makes it a subconscious goal for him to find the closest thing in reality, and purchase that for them as well. Since he can't quite recall the ring he hand in SAO for Asuna, his dream is to order a specially crafted ring especially for her.

Kirito literally thinks of himself as sort of an anime protagonist in his own mind. This is in a sense 4th wall breaking, but it's due to experiences in the actual life of Sword Art Online that he believes his path is the righteous one, as well as he thinks it's difficult for him to succumb to any other in any sort of competition.
