Sugar cane-based Tetra Pak carton
Food processing and packaging solutions provider Tetra Pak (M) Sdn Bhd today launched the industry’s first plant-based renewable packaging materials carton — Tetra Rex.
Vice president, marketing and product management Charles Brand said the launch of the new package is in line with the company’s strategic priorities of environmental excellence and a driver of the company’s product development activities.
“Together with suppliers, customers and other stakeholders, we are leading the industry towards 100% renewable packaging,” he said in a statement.
He said the new package, developed in partnership with Braskem, a world’s leading biopolymers producers, will be commercially available in early next year.
The carton will be the first in the market to have bio-based low-density polyethylene films and bio-based high-density polyethylene caps, both derived from sugar cane, in addition to Forest Stewardship Council certified paperboard, he said.
