Re-Org International has spent January crowdsourcing collection storage tips and tricks.
Our registrar recently led a tiny team to assess and re-house collection materials considered large format but that were too small to be housed safely in standard sized map case drawers. The collection materials were placed into appropriately sized archival folders and then stored in archival containers. These containers were then placed on collection shelving, allowing for easy access to the material. As each folder that was re-housed was also barcoded for identification purposes, folders from different collections could also be housed together in one container, maximizing space.
