So yall know I stay silly here.
Today is the one exception.
We want the Government to repeal the Online Safety act.
Not sure how many of you are aware, but in the past few days this has been put into effect here in the UK.
It requires us to photograph our face or ID to access anything considered to be "18+ content".
This includes self help sites, subreddits and message boards.
The petition is at 96,000 atm and will go to parliament when it hits 100k.
Please go sign it if you can, and if you can't please reblog so more people know abt it.
please don’t scroll , especially not UK residents this is crucial to your online presence and safety.
I don’t think I’ve written a post before but this is important .
In the Uk I’ve started to see more implementation of the Online Safety Act. Whilst I understand parts of why this act is being implemented (child online safety) I have already encountered issues with it .
For the record I am a legal adult , but I have a baby face .
Using age verification AI doesn’t work well for me , I can only imagine the implications such a thing may have on people with facial differences.
With the rise of AI , I and others are hesitant to use programs that use facial recognition, as it could lead to issues such as deepfakes and dangerous scams using such information.
I also do NOT want to use my debit card as a form of identification as many websites have implemented, data breaches have proved to be a problem time and time again , attaching my debit card would not only risk my identity but all my savings too.
There’s also a wide range of concerns around censorship, including and not limited to speaking out against the Genocide in Gaza. We’ve already seen people being treated as criminals for opposing the genocide and having your government ID connected to your social media account could result in criminal charges if you say something they oppose.
Please sign the petition if you’re in the UK, this is already happening, this act is dangerous to all UK residents, please reblog and spread the word

Hey so this isn’t a post I would usually make but I feel I must to inform people, especially those in the UK.
A new law was put in place called the ‘Online Safety Act’. This Act makes any illegal content need some sort of identification or face scan to see.
This may sound good but it isn’t. The Government haven’t made their own database to store identification but are sending it to a third-party American company which is much less secure.
As well, the content that is ‘illegal’ is defined by the government. This means that censorship will happen and will try and hide topics such as LGBTQ+ or news about Conflicts. Not only does that go against freedom of information but as well hobby forums, help websites and websites that support SA victims are under risk of being censored or fully blocked. This goes against freedom of speech as posts about serious topics will be censored.
Wikipedia is trying to be blocked by the UK, an incredible neutral source of information. They are fighting this but we don’t know how long they will be able to.
All of this is under the guise of ‘protecting children’ but this isn’t achieving this. Children are curious and this law will only popularise NSFW websites that are shady and possibly have incredibly illegal content. As well, this should be the parent’s responsibility! There are literally parental controls to stop children accessing content and they can ask their network to not allow certain sites to be viewed. This law is not about child protection but about control.
This is all happening after 16 year olds have been allowed to vote and because of this law, young people may not be able to be fully informed on parties.
If you can please sign the petition linked here.
They may have responded with the equivalent of a ‘Fuck you we won’t change it’ but that doesn’t mean we stop going against it.
Email, send letters, call; do anything you can to contact MPs and tell what you think about this Act.
We will not back down.
We want the Government to repeal the Online Safety act.
