Congress is back on their bullshit again
For those who have been keeping their ear to the ground, you may have heard that the House Energy and Commerce Committee is planning a Markup vote that will include several pieces of internet legislation that we have been fighting against. This is correct. The announcement of what bills will be going up on Thursday have just been announced today, on Tuesday, as they normally have.
However, they have one trick to add to their attempts to bulldoze this invasive legislation through the halls of power.
As can be seen here, there are four bills related to internet legislation in this nine bill markup vote. Three may seem familiar to you: Sammy's Law, the Children and Teens Online Privacy Protection Act, and the App Store Accountability Act. The last one, however, the KIDS Act (Kids Internet and Digital Safety), is one that you likely have not heard of before. And there's a reason for that. They only just made it for the worst possible reason.
HR 7757 The Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act (KIDS Act) is an unholy amalgamation made up of all the bad faith online legislation that Chairman Guthrie and his cronies could possibly cram in there. Including KOSA, the SCREEN Act, anti NSFW legislation, age verification, ID Verification. All the worst players. All of it shoved into one giant bill with a brand new name to hide everything sinister it wants to claim is "for the kids" to further push their agenda of censorship and control.
Before this bill goes up for a Markup, which would push it into the House, on this Thursday the 5th, call as many of the House Energy and Commerce Committee members as you can. Tell them everything wrong with the KIDS Act. Especially if you're one of their constituents. But still call into as many as you can.
Don't let them think they can sneak this in under our noses. And do not let them push this through without a fight.
