Magnus could not disobey a direct order; not in the tense situation at hand. In the heat of battle orders could be lost or misheard, but here and now was the time for obedience. The group of Neutral mechs who had come under the auspices of parlay were tense, looking as though they expected an ambush any nanoklik - all except one at the very back of the group, who simply looked expectant.

Magnus didn’t like this. Magnus did not like it at all; it smacked of a trap. Still, orders were orders; he subsided and withdrew to a safe distance behind Prime. If his hammer rested a little more loosely on his back in the process, well, that was just hardware errors. He’d have maintenance done to fix it later. Much later.

Not quite in time, Jazz’s warning rang through Magnus’ comm line just as pain exploded across his chassis. One shot had merely clipped him, but the other was a through-and-through. Cursing audibly, he reached into the injury and pinched a broken fuel line shut. 

Two clattering clangs reverberated along the alley, and Magnus ducked behind what was left of a waste storage receptacle. Simply because there wasn’t any more shooting right this nanoklik didn’t mean Jazz had gotten all the snipers.

Magnus could only hope he had.

Magnus regarded the holoform for a long moment before reaching over and plucking a single datapad from the stacks surrounding his desk.

“These are all complaints logged in the last fourteen joor. If you would process them as you see fit as soon as you can, I would be most grateful.”

All the more so for the intelligence reports he was currently collating about possible local organics who would have been able to co-ordinate and execute the raid on Shockwave’s laboratory.

Humans generated a staggering amount of data themselves, and even with Soundwave going through it first an almost overwhelming amount of it ended up on Magnus’ desk. Every time he left for recharge or Energon, he would return to another twelve datapads filled to capacity on his desk.

With the astonishing morass of data he had to sift through for useful intelligence, routine maintenance logs, complaints, personnel files, and all other errata generated daily were being left by the wayside. And just when he’d nearly gotten on top of the backlog, too.

Magnus was somewhat nonplussed. He, of all mechs, would not be his own first choice as a part of a rescue mission. Still, he was not on a particularly important duty and he had been given orders to assist Metroplex in any way possible.....

Magnus paused as he received communications from, surprisingly, one of the resident scientists. He considered briefly the pros and cons of accepting Skyfire's aid before replying.

It wasn't long before Optimus replied to Ultra Magnus; his face stern with the weight of duty. {{ Commander, report back to the Nemesis immediately. To the best of our knowledge, M.E.C.H. was forced underground and spread to the wind when its leader, Silas, was destroyed. This may be a separate entity. }} He stated, and chose not to mention his culpability in the human's death.

Magnus looked up as the transmission came across his long-range array. He had been inputting a slightly more comprehensive report to send off to Soundwave before heading back to the gutted laboratory. 

{{ Acknowledged, sir. I did not penetrate far into the laboratory on my previous examination, and will be more wary when I return. }}

He put the finishing touches on the preliminary report and sent it on its way to Soundwave, forwarding another copy to the leaders of both factions. 

{{ Communications are impossible from inside the laboratory, sir. I will endeavour to discover more about what was taken and precisely who took it. }}

He hesitated a moment before adding one last note and signing off. {{ Sir, from reports I have collated n my office, I do not think this is an isolated phenomenon. Shockwave had other labs - and of the locations Soundwave has already decoded, two more have several reports of atypical human movement. }}

Magnus exvented heavily and shuffled through a stack of datapads.

Though the "timely" and "assistance" were heavily in doubt. Still, at this point the addition of another datapad or twelve would hardly make a difference to the mess infesting his office.
