OMG!! I’M SO SCARED!
Like seriously. All the beautiful artists have problems with their art being stole. Like what kind of person you must be to post something that isn’t yours?! Have their schools not taught them how to credit artists (in general) and copy rights?!
Stealing is a CRIME! And not because you took for a “little blog” on Tumblr gives you the right to take it and repost it without crediting the artist D:<
That’s why people have a TERRIBLE image of the DL fandom: they say we are thieves and that we are very mean within our own comunity D:<
In some cases we (the good people that just wants to spend some time looking through posts) try to break the steriotypes, but people like them (thieves) is impossible.
I HATE looking people leaving, because they can’t stand being in the DL fandom anymore. Artists, translators, scenario blogs... good contributions to the fandom.
What I suggest for artists to do is: start blocking by countries. I know this may sound like those extremist political partys or so. But seing the situation...it looks like it’s the only way. I would love this not to happen and warnings and messages to work, but the thieves just seem impossible to have a decent conversation with. You kindly ask them to take it down, since is the artist’s choice AND RIGHT or at least to credit them. BUT NO~ THEY COURSE AT YOU AND DON’T CREDIT.
I’ve been taught since a very young age not to take what isn’t yours. Simply because it belongs to someone else and not you. Is putting yourself in that person’s situation. My mom said: “How would you feel if a boy/girl took your toy without telling you? You know is yours, but the kid won’t give it back since he/she assures it’s his/hers?” I’d feel sad and angry I said. Then I entered to school and learned about copy rights. How great scientists were stolen their ideas and no one to defend them, being forgotten as a result in history and others taking their glory. I made various homeworks coping-pasting information without references. I got in trouble MANY times. But then I thought: How would I feel if I made an amazing piece of writting, wanting to share it, sharing it and suddenly came a person and claiming it to be theirs? FURIOUS AND DEPRESSED OF COURSE!
On Youtube I saw a channel and they were having their videos posted on Vimeo without credit them (they were small cartoons). They tried convinving them to stop, but the thieves refused. What does the channel did? Block the contry the thieves came from (I think Italy). Since then the thieves couldn’t access the channel anymore and so their cartoons were not reposted anymore.
I hate suggesting this (since we are looking at how the world is suffering because of exclutions and partys wanting to isolate their country), but if it’s the only way...? It has happened to me: I’m unable to look to some videos i used to enjoy, since the owners of the channel block my country. It feels awful: why punishing the whole country just for some idiots? Sometimes you don’t understand why. Sometimes you do, so the only thing that you can do is to accept it.
Or maybe something less radical: putting HUGE WATERMARKS ON THE IMAGE OR TRANSLATIONS. They would look horrible, but it would be (at least I hope/think) the only way to assure your art/translation.
I now ask to my followers: if any of you my edits somewhere else, TELL ME. Or if you see artists you know being stolen DON’T REMAIN QUIET! IT’S IMPORTANT!! You tell the artist: then the artist can tell you they allow it or take actions.
LET’S STOP THIS AND DO SOMETHING. STOP THE INDIFFERENCE. YOU ARE BEING AN ACCOMPLICE IF YOU STAY QUIET. IN ORDER TO CHANGE OUR WORLD: SMALL ACTIONS LIKE DEFENDING ARTISTS WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY, WE ARE A MOVING FORWARD STEP BY STEP TO A BETTER WORLD!!
