I dunno if this is sex ed.. maybe since it has to do with reproduction but I was wondering.. since a mother can pass on a fobia to her child.. could she also pass on a trauma response? I get really uncomfortable around drunk people and most others who describe similar feelings around alcohol have had alcoholic parents. I don't.. but my mom did. She did also shelter me from alcohol use so it could just be that I'm not used to it but it's so eerily similar to how my friend with actual trauma react
Hi,
As we’ve seen through the passing of trauma response from African slaves to African-Americans as well as an infamous study with rats and electric shock, trauma responses as well as other effects from trauma can absolutely be passed from parent to offspring through permanently modified gene expression. Studies of this sort fall under the field of epigenetics.
You can read about some of the studies here and here, and about the field of epigenetics here.
Hope this Helped!
