jörmagandr may be burying herself for brumation! it is like reptile hibernation if you've not heard of it before, and even pet snakes can pick up on shorter days and cooler temperatures n start being more lethargic, burying themselves, or not eating during fall or winter :] some snake owners allow their snakes to go through the process of brumation, and put them in a cooler, smaller area where they can sleep n slow their heart down and stuff, but usually pet snakes are just fine staying awake for the winter, so its your choice for what to do !! if you had already ruled this out for why she may be doing that then you can just ignore this ;'>
While that would make sense for some species, ball pythons don’t brumate in the wild, since they live in an area that stays warm year-round. Brumation, from my understanding, also requires changes in the environment the animal is in. Now, I don’t actually know if ball pythons physically can brumate in the first place, but it wouldn’t make sense due to environmental conditions. Her day/night cycle and temperature have remained basically the same since I got her, with the exception of a couple of days ago when the temperature might have dropped by a couple of degrees for a few hours.
My best guess as to her behavior right now is that she made a mess in her favorite hide and left the area. This is supported by the fact that she went back to that hide after I cleaned it out. Although, if I had a corn snake or a hognose, this wouldn’t be as unlikely (though a hognose burrowing is typical, of course).
