            " oh. ” there is a pause, arthur blinks, once, twice. finally, he fixes his posture, running a hand through the back of his hair, “ sorry, hm, hi. i, i didn’t think, i didn’t think i would see you here. ” maybe, he should have known better than to try and forget about them in a crowded club. “ i can, i can leave if you want me to. ”

nicole just got off her shift at the coffee shop she’d been working at for the last six months and was trying to gather her things as efficiently as possible so she could stop off at her apartment quickly to get changed. she honestly couldn’t believe she’d agreed to her coworker setting her up with no knowledge about the other whatsoever. she tried to be an optimist though so, why not give this a shot? the worst thing that happened was she actually had a decent dinner even if the company wasn’t great. most nights she resorted to just eating crackers or chips or ramen noodles. 

as fast as she could, the barista changed out of her work clothes and slipped into a wine red t-shirt dress. she took her hair out of the ponytail it had been in all day and tossed her hair around a bit to try and make it look a little better. checking the time, she ran back out of her apartment as she grabbed her clutch. 

finally getting to the place where her coworker had told her to go to, nicole sat down at the table that had been reserved for them. she kept adjusting her hair, willing herself not to check the time on her phone again. suddenly she noticed someone come up to the table and looked over. “hi... uh, i’m nicole! it’s nice to meet you.”
