- Hello! I decided I wanted to write a small story for two of my bitties, to be specific I wanted to show when Rio the Floof and Buddy the Howler arrived at the center for the first time, as well as show what Rio gets up to when he’s not doing what he can to keep Calix in line! I’ll be sharing more of these stories in the future if you guys like them! For now, here you are!
Summary: Buddy and Rio have come to the center after being adopted! Buddy seems content with just lying about but Rio makes a discovery and decides he’s found his place at the center…
Demure hadn’t been kidding when he said they should just let Rio tire himself out along the road home. Ethan and Dawn were both shaking their heads all the way from the isle to the center while Calix was being scolded, screeched at and bapped multiple times with the pair of glittering wings. Someone was making up for the time he’d been away from his brother!
Unlocking the back door they all first went into the nursery where Lyel put away the items they’d gotten from the ever helpful Demure, already sorting and putting things in their proper places as he went along, while Dawn motioned for Ethan and Calix to keep moving into the main part of the center. They had two new bitties to show around after all!
The wolf-hybrid had already made a mental note to show off the pillow room last, and it was a good thing she did. The second the excited Howler saw the room he jumped from Ethan’s arm along with the squeaky toy and settled into a few pillows, out like a light. Ethan just shook his head while Dawn chuckled. “Guess someone was a lot more exhausted from everything. Let’s just leave him here for now, you can show him the rest later Ethan.” She told the Alpha who nodded his head, trying not to smile too widely as she gently scratched him behind the ear.
Rio, of course, had stopped lecturing his brother when Dawn had started showing off the place, instead asking a few questions here and there. And of course he hadn’t missed how there were a few winged bitties up closer to the ceiling that had been keeping their eyes on him all this time. So when they left the pillow room with Buddy left behind - and slowly being covered in other bitties who seemed to love having a new nap buddy (urgh, a pun for a name, how horrid) - he decided to ask about them.
“Oh! Those are Melody bitties! We adopt them out here at the shop!” Dawn explains before whistling lightly. A good few of the Melody bitties react instantly, coming down to either perch on her horns or her arm - depending on their size - he even notices that one of them has a shirt that says ‘Little helper’ on. That one must be a permanent resident here.
The feathered bitties all start chirping at him happily, a few of them looking in awe at his feathers but of course they would - his feathers are absolutely gorgeous after all! He takes good care of them! He listens as Dawn tells him about the bitties, Mel who is Dawn’s own Melody even showing off when Dawn tells anything about them, and he listens intently. Especially when she tells him one thing. They can get stressed out.
“What happens if they get too stressed?”
Dawn smiles sadly before telling Calix to wait in the center as the Melody bitties flies back to the perches they’d been on. Rio is surprised when his brother just nods, not even making a flirty comment. Something must be up. He gets down from his brother’s arms and follows as Dawn heads back out to the outside, turning over to an area of the back where there’s a lot of tall bushes keeping something from view. He quickly learns what that is.
In front of him are two large aviaries, one with a lot of room but many perches as well as a padded flooring for any accidental falling, a few Melody bitties gliding between the perches at the very back of the enclosure, looking at the two of them nervously. But it’s the other one that catches his attention more. The floor is padded too, but there’s a lot more perches in here as well as ladders going up and down along some ramps. There aren’t as many bitties in this enclosure as far as he can see, but there’s a few that he notices right away… And they break his soul.
It’s clear they’ve had it rough in life, he can see that clear as day with the scars and cracks on the bitties. But it’s also how they hold themselves. They curl up, hiding away in their wings as much as possible, even the ones who are missing a big portion of feathers from their wings. They also seem to be shaking a lot where they sit - besides one who’s outright glaring at him - but that’s not the biggest thing that clues him in.
They’re silent. All of them.
There’s no chirping or singing.
They’re all birds, harpies, Dawn told him they love music and singing.
But they’re all dead quiet.
“These are all Melody bitties who have gotten back to me, either rescued from a situation… Or turned in by owners who couldn’t handle them despite my many warnings about how they are.” Dawn tells him, making him turn his head to her. “It’s just like parrots, sadly… I know many parrot lovers who share similar stories; people get the birds because of the pretty feathers and wanting them to say stuff… But they don’t realize how much work having one takes. Melodies may be sentient and capable of doing a lot of things on their own, but they’re still bitties and rely on the souls who take them in. A lot of the time this is forgotten though and… Well, I don’t think I have to say too much else on that front.”
She doesn’t have to say anything else indeed. He moves with her as she walks away, but he looks back over his shoulder after a bit and sees that most of the bitties in there was looking at him as the two of them were walking away, a look in their eyes that got him to make up his mind.
The next couple of days were spent getting used to the routine at the center now that they are part of the family there, as well as getting to know all the bitties that Dawn owns. Seriously, one of the rooms in her apartment is a small village for the bitties there! She has no control over how many she’s getting! But of course he can also see that none of them are without love. Dawn takes her time to give everyone attention as needed. He’s impressed.
But on top of all that, he takes time to go back to the aviaries and spend time there, either just sitting there on the bad days or talking and singing to the bitties in there on the better days. He’s happy one day when one of the Melody bitties - who has no feathers at all and instead wears a thick sweater to keep warm - decides to come down and sing with him, only the netting of the aviary being between him and reaching up to gently pet her. He still holds his hand up to her and lets the smaller bitty lean towards it, taking comfort in the act.
It’s on one of the better days that Dawn catches him there, having come out to feed and spend time with the bitties back here. The two of them look at each other for a long while, Dawn with surprise and Rio a little guarded. But of course, there was no reason to be so. But it did cause an interesting reaction as the featherless Melody jumps down and starts chirping away at Dawn, defending the fact that he’s there!
Dawn recovers after a bit and chuckles, smiling brightly at the two of them. “So this is where you’ve been disappearing off to Rio? Have you been spending time with these Melody bitties all along?”
“.... Yes,” he carefully says, “I’ve been back here to just… Talk to them or sing when they’ll let me. When… When you took me back here the first time to see them… I didn’t like the silence!”
He stands up from sitting down, getting closer to Dawn as his feathers floof up in agitation. But not at Dawn or the other bitties.
“They are all Melody bitties, their name even says they should be signing to the heavens as they so want to. They should be loud like they want to, but they’re all silent. They should be proud of their looks, but they shy away and hide. They are all wonderful souls, but their eyes tell me they don’t see it anymore. They need to be shown just how wonderful they are, how amazing their voices are when they sing… And how strong they are for being here even after what happened to them ....”
All while he was going off, Dawn had just been standing there, watching him. Once he’s done, Rio jumps a little as Dawn pets him on the skull, looking at her in confusion.
“Rio… How about you become the main caretaker of these guys? I can tell you want to help them recover and I think you’ve been doing a wonderful job so far.”
At his confused expression, she motions to the aviaries where - once he turns and looks - he sees that not only the featherless one, but also the smaller twins and the Melody who’s wing is still recovering from breaking have all gotten closer, all of them looking to him with a new look in their eyes…
Wonder.
And a hint of happiness.
He turns his eyes back to Dawn, his feathers floof up this time in pride.
Lyel the Pawpyrus, Ethan the Alpha, Buddy the Howler, Calix the Sly and Rio the Floof are all bitties from @wonderland-isles and you should check them out!
I knock on the front door, holding a cardboard box lined with a towel. Inside is Creampuff, the blind Papyrus bitty. I gave him some water because I thought that was safe, but I have no clue what bitties eat. He's currently pretty upset with me because he still wanted to wait for "mama," but I got him to tell me that it had been at least two weeks since she left him there, so I really don't think anyone is coming for him, poor thing.
-------
I immediately come to the door, bitty-sized monster snacks at the ready. "Come in." Brown and, surprisingly, Grey are on the front desk. Violet is flying overhead anxiously. In fact, all the bitties who are out look anxious and worried, as do I.
-------
(I really don't know where to go from here, sorry!) I hold out the box to you, looking nervous and uneasy. "Here he is..." Inside, Creampuff is hugging his knees and crying still from his lightless blind eyes. "I think he's pretty traumatized. I wasn't sure what to do, and I know you are the experts on helping bitties." The Papyrus bitty lifts his head and glances around, then asks, "WHERE AM I? WHERE IS MAMA? WHO ARE YOU?"
-------
I take the box gently and nod. "You're safe now Creampuff. I don't know where your mama is, but I don't think she's coming back, I'm sorry. I'm Saraa, and I want to help you, okay?" Brown "shortcuts" onto my shoulder, then into the box to check the Papy over for any injuries and calm him. Grey shortcuts onto a nearby shelf to see what's happening. I gently reach into the box with bitty-sized monster snacks in hand.
-------
I hold out the box for you to take, hands shaking slightly. "I'm so sorry, I really have to go, I don't want him to think I'm his new mom or anything when I can't be." I sniffle a little, but manage not to cry. "I hope you can help Creampuff find a really nice new home."
-------
I have already taken the box. "We will. That's a promise."
Compatibility: Peppi is extremely calm, you could pick him up and he’d just hang there limply. Absolutely chilling.
He’s okay with practically anything, whether it be cuddles or watching something with someone. However, he doesn’t tend to play very often, preferring to chill out with others instead.
He isn’t very mobile, preferring to just nap through the days. Therefore, he’d probably need an exercise schedule.
He’s like a very chill cat!
Feeding habits: He tends to have a huge appetite, and will bug you when it’s feeding time! You don’t need to have a good schedule, because he knows when it’s feeding time and he will remind you!
Additional info: He does well with any amount of bitties, aggressive or not!
Injuries: He’s missing a finger on his right hand.
Special requirements: He needs a little bit of help when holding things due to his missing finger, and he needs more frequent tank cleanings because he’s too lazy to clean up.
Warnings: N/A
Reasons for rescue: He was found in a lake, where he was missing a finger. He was turned into the rescue after no one was found to be his owner, and we’ve been helping him heal since!
Difficulty: Beginner
Color/Pattern: White bones, Denim Blue lipstick-like marking on the mouth, White eyelights, typical Pearl tail colors and markings.
Hello! I was interested in two bittys? Lucas and Earl. I was talking with Mod Wolf about it. They told me to send in a ask!
-Bruce
You’re pretty damn lucky, Mod Wolf’s put in a good word for you! They say you’d be good for the bitties, and I believe them! So they’re all yours!
Scenario:
Lucas was the one you visited first. He was friendly, if not a little shy, and he seemed to take a liking to you. You talked and played, until it was time for you to go home. And then, a few days later, you came back. It took a moment for him to recognize you, but when he did, he was absolutely ecstatic. He practically talked your ear off, recounting what he could remember from the last few days. It was then and there you decided to adopt him.
Next was Earl. He was a lot more chill, hopping down to talk to you and telling all the jokes that he could remember. It was a good time, and though he didn’t care much for playtime, the casual conversation was comfortable and fun. You kept coming back after that, telling him about your day and watching him listen to you so intently. It was endearing, really, he really did care about what you were saying and would respond with anecdotes from his own life. It was nice. So nice that you decided to adopt him.
You came in that day in high spirits, the person at the desk handing you Earl in a soft carrier and guiding Lucas towards you. You were given supplies and food for your new friends, and then you were sent on your way, Lucas never leaving your side and Earl napping happily in the carrier.
—
It doesn’t take long for the two to warm up to their new home. Earl takes naps on the couch with ease, and Lucas patrols the place proudly. It’s nice here.
Both bitties use He/Him! Take good care of them, okay?
Compatibility: Macie is a very paranoid bitty, often hiding wherever she can in her tank and growling at anyone who gets too close to her.
Due to her previous circumstances, she’s scared of almost everyone and sees all other bitties as an enemy to be defeated, and will often try to sneak up on someone in order to attack them first.
Because of this, it’s recommended that she be an only bitty, at least until she’s healed enough to not attack anyone.
She needs a lot of places to hide in her tank, as that would make her feel a lot more safe.
If she feels safe enough around you, she’ll often pull small, harmless pranks to show that she’s not as bad as she knows she seems.
She never does anything out of malice, and she thinks of herself as someone who will never find true peace because of what she’s been through.
She needs someone kind and patient who can spend time with her and show her that she’s loved. Macie will love you forever if you show her that she’s loved even after everything!
Feeding habits: Macie tends to hoard food, and starves herself to save food in case something bad happens.
You’ll have to feed her by hand so that she doesn’t do this, which will be pretty difficult at first. With enough patience, she’ll learn that food won’t be running out any time soon.
Additional info: She loves to watch people play video games, whether it be you or someone online! She especially likes story-based rpgs like Final Fantasy and Persona!
Injuries: She has a small fracture across her collarbone, and quite a few chipped teeth. All injuries are most likely from fights.
Special requirements: She needs things to chew on when she’s bored, and be prepared to get a lot of chew toys! Even with her chipped teeth, her bite is very strong and she’ll probably chew through most things!
Warnings: She has the tendency to attack other bitties, so it’s not recommended that you adopt her with any other bitties currently in your home.
This could change as she heals, though!
Reasons for rescue: She was rescued from an aquatic bitty fighting ring, one that was very low budget as there wasn’t a lot of food most of the time.
The police found her trying to hide, but her tank was too small for her to properly move in. She was given to the rescue by the police and has been there ever since.
Difficulty: Advanced
Color/Pattern: White bones, Red swirl markings that glow in the dark, Regular Mako tail, Red eyelights, 2 pairs of eyes.
Species: Peppermint(ochako uraraka lamia from fantasy fields)
Morph: Spring, Pastel, Split Tail
Variant: No Variant
Age: Adult
Size: 9 Inches Tall (Average Mini)
Personality: Withdrawn, Kind, Depressed
Compatibility: Olivine is a kind but tragic soul, often needing frequent reassurance that she has a future and she’s going to be okay.
After the death of her old owner, Olivine has been isolating herself from people and other bitties alike, most of the time being curled up in her nest staring at the small necklace she was left with. The only part of her old owner left.
She’s depressed, but still wants to be as kind as possible to other people when she isn’t cooped up away from them. But that becomes hard to do, when she’s so sad.
She prefers fluffy materials to make her nest out of, especially because she spends most of her time in it.
She’d be better as a single bitty, as she lived that way for most of her life.
Given enough time and patience, she could heal from what she went through. If you can be her friend, she’ll return that love tenfold!
Feeding habits: She doesn’t eat often, but when she does she prefers warm, homemade foods that remind her of her old home.
Additional info: She likes to watch romance movies and make fun of the characters in those movies for being corny and stupid.
Injuries: N/A
Special requirements: She requires a quiet and dark space that’s just for her, and that’d usually be where her nest is.
Warnings: N/A
Reasons for rescue: She was owned by a kind soldier, but one day, he died during a war.
She was found in his old home, answering the door to find out that he had died. She was juggled between owners for a while, before finally being given to the rescue after countless times of being returned.
Difficulty: Intermediate - Advanced
Color/Pattern: Fair skin, Green dusting on cheeks, Green gradients on arms, White flower patterns all over skin and tail, Light brown hair, Pastel Pink and Purple tail.
*rolls in* helloo, I'd love to meet and possibly adopt rose since he caught my eye 👁️
Hey now, where have YOU been? /j /nm
All jokes aside, though, I have confidence that you’ll be good for Rose! After all, Mod Wolf seems to trust you a fair amount!
He’s all yours!
Scenario:
You popped into the center, looking at the rescues and playing with a few of them. It was then that a little pink lamia caught your eye. He was chowing down on a macaron, made by one of the staff’s bitties, and absolutely sobbing over it. You approached him, concerned for him. Upon noticing you, he slid away a little, hiding behind a cat tree. But you sat there and started a conversation with him anyways. At first, he’d only respond in little nods and hums, but slowly, he started to reply with more and more detail, becoming more and more confident with every minute you spent with him. By the time you needed to go home, he was comfortable enough to crawl onto your lap and ramble about his favorite things. Before you went, he asked if you were going to adopt him. It was then you decided that you would.
A few days later, and it was time to take him home. The staff member at the front desk handed him to you in a soft carrier, along with giving you supplies to care for him and a few bags of snacks he seemed to like. One of the staff bitties, an Ori, came to say goodbye to him as well, wishing him the very best in his new home. You left the center with a new friend sitting happily inside of his carrier, finally having found a place where he belonged.
—
It took a little bit for him to get used to your home. He spent a lot of time exploring and finding hiding places that he can comfortably sleep in. But, soon enough, he settled in and started living the life he always wanted.
