Post #2 for the day. I'm playing catch-up 🏃🏻♀️➡️. Don't be me, don't do this to yourself, lol 🫠
I went to Hobby Lobby and got some things! Some of you are probably like... Okay? So? This is a rare occurrence for me. I get to go there maybe once or twice a year. MAYBE. It's complicated.
I got this adorable mushroom tray that I can maybe finish decorating my bathroom with or put in my bedroom, if I can find room. Have yet to decide. I'm in Spring cleaning mode even though it's not Spring, lol.
Also got these jewelry storage boxes for insanely cheap (well I consider them cheap) that I can put a ton of tiny UV Resin embeds in and they're why I wanted to go to Hobby Lobby to begin with.
And then there's all those glitters I got. I'm making a serious effort here guys. To like glitter more 😐. I'm not a girly-girl. I own maybe one dress and it's a pencil dress, in black, lol. My wardrobe is like... mostly flannel shirts, sweaters and cardigans with jeans. I'm the most typical INTJ you'll ever meet. Functionality > Fashion. Quality > Beauty. But anyways.
One of those glitters there glows in the dark! I thought that was cool, but I think it's a little weak? I had to use my UV Light to activate it but usually that's how it goes ⤵️
I think within the week I got a few more deliveries. This is me prepping to get back on track for the original goals I've had in mind all these years.
Some of these I had already, and many were new ⤵️
I wonder if a picture is starting to form? Can you guys guess one of my goals/projects? There's actually two.
They both take learning curves. I've already got the other one down, and it was the first thing I tried when I got into resin. But I only tried doing this one recently and thought with all of my experience it'd be a walk in the park- no problems.
Yeah... no.
Okay so, these ones were easy. Because they are tall. And I love them because they are colorful and cute. I immediately put them on my arrow keys.
They'd also make great F-Keys because of their height. But if you know anything about keycaps, you are aware keys have switches. My keycap molds are meant for Cherry MX keycaps and Gateron keycaps.
I also wanted to make myself a WSAD set, but the keycap mold set I own is confusing with no manual or explanation for anything so everything I've been doing has been trial and error- testing, blah blah.
This is where things kind of de-railed a bit.
I used Let's Resin's White UV Resin for the letters, because they'll be opaque and properly cure with no problems.
It's just getting these itty bitty things out of this teeny tiny mold can be fiddly, lol 😅
I also used some of my other nail tech molds (in a previous picture above) to make ribbons and ginkgo leaves.
I made a set in what I thought was the correct mold for the WSAD keys, and it was the correct mold, however... ⤵️
I made my layers too thick, even though I tried my best to keep them as thin as possible, if that makes sense. Covering the ginkgo leaves and ribbons required me to fill it too much, so when it came to add the black, and I had to press the backside of the keycap mold to it, the black UV resin pushed away and left it clear behind.
I'm probably not making sense unless you have these molds yourself and you do it yourself.
The fix for this would be to fill the rod in the black UV, or to fill the keycap less- which I couldn't do because of the ginkgo and ribbon being too chunky.
This is why I say it's a learning curve. This keycap set in particular is just too short, lol. You have to be aware of how much you can fit into it.
So, now understanding this, I tried it again but filling the ginkgo and ribbons in with LESS resin, making them thinner. But I had the same problem. It didn't solve anything 🫠
Third time, I decided to completely ix-nay the ginkgo and ribbons, and try something else. ⤵️
These are also nail tech art embeds but not ones you can make yourself. They're flat and work wonderfully. I love these keys, I just wish I made the letters in black because I can hardly see them, but they're there! My previous keys were also custom keys without letters, so these are an upgrade no matter how you look at it.
Custom keys are one of two of the reasons why I got into working with resin and I want to make many more 😄💝
What else is going in the shop tomorrow? What about some B-Grade key caps too? The Ethereal Koi keycaps may not be perfect, but are fully functional and still look great on a backlit keyboard. All flaws will be fully explained in the listing, and they are offered at a discount!
You want more, you say? >.> Okay, what about some keycaps? Also going into the shop on Saturday, July 1st at 8pm! Disclaimer: Please keep all candy stars in a safe and secure place. ~ResinGremlin
