Imagine you’re indoctrinated as a child about your own race, and you grow up in regions where people discriminate against you and regard you as scums, and then you’re forcefully mutilated to give your family a chance to live peacefully while you’re sent to fight your own people living cut off from the world on a different island where they’re being persecuted by creatures you’ve been mutilated to become.
You’ve essentially been forced to become the beings who are hated by the enemies and your own race. For your enemies you are either devils or weapons for war, and for your people you’re their oppressors.
